    Mad Max

Interestingly, Gibson was actually born in the U.S. My understanding is that his dad is American (and lives in California, if I remember correctly) and his Mom was an Aussie. I do believe he spent most of his childhood in Australia though. The Wikipedia page on Mad Max has a nice writeup about...

    Mad Max

Not sure which version you are referring to. But the back of the video I watched said something to the effect of it being the first time the original sound was released in the U.S. The "making of" video shows some clips from the dubbed version, with Mel Gibson redubbed to sound very, very...

    Mad Max

I also watched Mad Max recently. I believe it was the first time I had seen it with its original Australian sound. When they brought it to America, they redubbed the entire movie, apparently because Australian English was deemed too foreign for American ears.

Well, as of Friday morning, I am still working my way through the M&M2e rules and haven't put anything together for a game of any sort. Roleplaying would be fun, but board games or whatever could be cool too.

HOWEVER, from what I have seen so far, True 20 is not entirely classless. Where Mutants and Masterminds is a classless game, for all intents and purposes. And while it is designed for super-hero action, I don't see any reason that it couldn't be used for any genre, just by adjusting the power...

There is a True 20 quick start book, available on the Green Ronin site, that is only like 8 pages long, but it is not very complete. There is also a full-blown PDF with all the rules and several example settings, for $17 or a hardcover for $35 or some such.

It is an interesting mechanic, the more I read about it. Everytime you fail your save by less than five, you become Bruised, which does nothing much but give you a -1 penalty on your next save. If you fail by 5, you are Stunned and Bruised. If you faill by 10 you are Staggered and Stunned and if...

The thing I like about M&M2e (and True 20 for that matter, since they are based on the same concept) is that Steve Kenson has really, REALLY made a coherent system out of the mess that is normal D20. All the rolls work the same. ALL OF THEM. You roll a D20 and add your modfiers against a target...

Have we come up with a plan at this point? Is anyone planning on coming? Are we just taking the day off? The only thing I am really reading is Mutants and Masterminds 2e, but I could switch if we could reach a consensus.

    A thoroughly modern idea

It appears that Green Ronin already ran with this idea. They have a book called "True 20" that is the generic version of their Mutants and Masterminds OGL-based system.

    A thoroughly modern idea

In an e-mail exchange, with Vince and Jason, I mentioned that I would like to create a D20-based, classless game system that could be used for any genre. After a bit of perusal, I'm wondering if Mutants and Masterminds Second Edition might not just fill the bill without any work on my part. So...

    A thoroughly modern idea

And that is really the crux of it. No matter what I assigned or how I calculated it "realistically" I am NOT going to be "heroic." If I rolled a character with MY stats, I would re-roll.

    A thoroughly modern idea

I really have no interest in playing myself. For one thing, I get tired of writing all those 18s down. For another, I play myself pretty much every day of the year. And really how do you quantify things like Wisdom and Charisma in the real world?

    A thoroughly modern idea

OK. I hope I can explain this idea in terms that make sense. What if: Instead of making characters for any particular game system or genre, we made characters for D20 Modern? Then, when we wanted to play in a given genre, we could just move our characters over to that D20 setting? Those...

    War of the Worlds

"Job: A comedy of Justice," is my favorite Heinlein novel. Some of his older stuff bugs me, but his good stuff is very, very good.

I don't think so. The thread is (thankfully) lost to the great thread death of a while back but as I recall the conversation, we agreed that we are not going to reach a compromise so it is best to rule out a superhero game.

X Men III Review - SPOILERS

Hehehe, I didn't see this earlier. Vince, you and your "shaky cam" hatred! I don't even notice this stuff anymore but it is becoming the bane of your sci-fi existence :)

    My bad... for the record

Guys, I want to apologize to everyone on Saturday. I seriously, seriously overestimated the number of gaming books and gaming PDFs I have. I have about 700 paper products instead of the 1,000 I said at the game (about 20 of which are magazines such as Dungeon, Dragon and Hero Games' Adventurers...
