D&D 4E What can Next do to pull in 4e campaigns?

As I think is common in 4e players, I'm a little disappointed with next so far. It doesn't really seem like a descendant of 4e, and that makes it hard for me to imagine moving our current campaign to it -- and my players have been clear that they don't want to abandon this campaign, both because...

    Radio Free Hommlet?

Does anyone know of a site that still provides (the archive of) these podcasts? I know they stopped producing them, but they seem to have just vanished.

Pathfinder 1E Should I kill off players who don't show?

By the way, I don't see why this thread is labeled "Pathfinder" -- seems more like "All D&D".

Pathfinder 1E Should I kill off players who don't show?

Whether this would work depends on the group, but in many cases players will not want to take responsibility for this decision, IMO. I think the DM has to be prepared make the call -- it's his game. There are potentially a lot of interpersonal politics going on in a situation like this. Do the...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

I think alignments help weaker roleplayers by giving them some guidelines for their character, but they have little benefit for stronger roleplayers. Alignments themselves are simplistic at best, so I don't put much emphasis on them in my campaign.

My players' pet theory is better than what I had planned. Is it cheesy for me to change things to match?

Go with the cooler idea. Not only will it please your players and make the game more fun, but it will challenge you to adjust your supporting material to fit -- it makes the game more improvisational, and in my experience, that is almost always the best thing.

    D&D 4.5E (Not Essentials)

Online tools that didn't depend on silverlight and worked on Android/iOS/Linux, and/or apps for phones that made at-table character management easier. A subscription level that included all the published material and had decent indexing of it. Fixes to some of the gimped classes (e.g...

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

Sorry, I was ambiguous but meant online tools to play D&D games against other people. It still isn't the same as in person, though.

Just wanted to say thanks for the link. Just what I needed for an upcoming game!

Well, there are always online games.

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

Yeah, that's one of the best parts of 4e, as-is the monster builder (Adventure Tools) generally.

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

I've enjoyed 4e a lot and am still running a 4e campaign. My daughter and her friends have another campaign they run at our house, and I noticed the other week that after experimenting with other systems, they are back to 4e.

    Those other two pillars

In my games I give experience even if there is no fight (or if the characters use diplomacy to avoid the fight). For my the point is cooperative story-telling and player agency, more than it is any particular mechanic. That said, some of the players get bored if they go too many sessions...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Feel Hopeful about 5E (and why I think it may be closer than some think)

The problem I have with the "intention" is that absolutely nothing has been demonstrated, so I think that is putting a lot more faith in future developments than I feel. If/when something actually shows up with that characteristic, I'll evaluate it then. I'm a skeptic that it will recruit any...

D&D 4E can i use essentials with my 4e group?

Works fine, one of my players is playing an essentials class. The one thing that may come up is that they will get less stuff (in terms of upgrades) because the classes are balanced differently -- make sure they understand the class before signing on. (My player is OK with it.)

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Feel Hopeful about 5E (and why I think it may be closer than some think)

The problem I have with your analysis is that I basically like 4e, and I don't see much of what I liked about it in 5e. So, for people who largely agree with you, and find 4e too "gamist" or whatever, it may be an improvement. But most of those folks are playing Pathfinder, and I don't know that...

    Open Gaming Content databases

Don't really like the thought of putting publisher's closed stuff on the list. I like keeping open and closed stuff really separate.

    So where are you now?

We've been playing 4e and are still playing it, but we're also gearing up to play a few games of 13th Age and see what we think. I guess when next comes out I'll see what extras they've added, but I'm not very sold on it so far. Zero chance we'll play Pathfinder (too complex and no current...

D&D 5E (2014) We're Getting Old - and is WotC Accounting For That?

Just a great post, thank you. I'm a 4e player who started _much_ later and am definitely "graying". I'm not a strongly attracted to Next, but if they provide the quality of online support I'm looking for (think the insider 4e tools, but hopefully better and not locked into Silverlight), that...
