    D&D 4E WotC Greg: 4E Campaign Report Part 2

That's my point, though. We're getting all these PR-limited game reports instead of official previews of what the game is like past the first level. That's where my frustration is coming from. I'm just getting tired of being told what the game is like when they could be showing us what the game...

    D&D 4E WotC Greg: 4E Campaign Report Part 2

As much as I like these reports, I can't help but have mixed feelings about them. I just think that they're talking about their new game much, much more than they're actually showing the game, and it's getting tiresome. But the fault for that, I suppose, would fall as much on my own expectations...

    WotC_Dave: Druid!

Then make the summons animal spirits. Spirits are quite common in myth, and it'd be very evocative for a druid to summon the spirits of the animals of the land to wreak havoc on those that would do harm to that land. And if the spirit "dies", no big deal, it was a spirit.

    WotC_Dave: Druid!

I'm not sure how to do it for an animal companion, but for summoning, they already have a 4E mechanic in place. The same way a wizard has to spend a minor action to sustain his 'fly' spell, a druid could have to use a standard action to sustain his summoned animal. It would take some...

    WotC_Dave: Druid!

But a spellcasting druid could be much different than a cleric, especially now that they're putting such an emphasis on the 'controller' role. Entangle could become a staple ability of the class, starting out small, only entangling a creature or two, and building up to a high-level entangle that...

    D&D 4E Early Days of 4e will be a Gearhead's Paradise

I can't help but think this is a poor rationalization. If there's a bard in the PHB, I don't see how that stops tinkerers from making their own bard. In fact, it'd probably help them, because they could get inspiration from things they like, while coming up with completely new stuff to fill in...

    WotC_Dave: Druid!

I hope they have two seperate builds for the druid like they did for the rogue with trickster rogue/brawny rogue builds. Maybe something like shifter druid/mystic druid, where the former relies on shapeshifting while the latter relies on nature spells relating to weather, elements, and animals...

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

But building and timing the buzz is necessary marketing to the mass market crowd, not the hardcore crowd. The largest entertainment product launch in recent memory would have to be Halo 3. It was absolutely huge, and the marketing push in the month before the game was released was ridiculous...

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

See, this confuses me. There's a number of people with legitimate concerns. There's a playtester who would help assuage those concerns by providing information about the game. But he can't do that because WotC hasn't yet revealed the information. And WotC doesn't seem eager to reveal much...

Do Opportunity Attacks interrupt AND stop movement?

I was just re-reading the old Design & Development article about fighters and saw the following mentioned: That seems to indicate that there is indeed some connection between opportunity attacks and wisdom. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20070816b

    Opportunity and interrupt confusion

That's not necessarily true, though. If I'm talking, and you interrupt with a question, that doesn't necessarily make me abort talking. I can continue to talk if I want. On the other hand, though, if you interrupt me by breaking my jaw, that's probably going to abort my speaking. That's why...

How Do You Like the Warlord?

I'm not sure I can form an opinion, even an early one, about the class by seeing three powers. I was really hoping for a meatier preview of the class than that.

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

Well that just wouldn't be any fun. I suppose I'm only half-joking. It's nice that support classes don't just have to stand in the back and spend all their turns on everyone else, but it does seem like they're taking it in the opposite direction where all support actions are now keyed off...

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

The less intuitive the rules get, the more problems players are going to have imagining how the rules fit into the broader narrative. And considering this is a game played mostly in one's imagination, that's an issue.

When rules provoke the response of "don't think too hard" I'm thinking that's rarely a good thing.

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

But how does that work? If there's a total of six people on three sides of a large dragon, he could shift back and keep his defense up, but if there's a single warlord and an ally, he can't? What's the warlord secret? "Hey, Ally Bob, um, I know you've never possibly considered this scenario, so...

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

Ok, while I agree that the names aren't that good, I think people should be cautious before labeling them 'high fantasy', 'videogamey', or 'anime'. There's a number of names in modern martial arts that are also a bit silly, such as an anaconda choke, Superman punch, gator roll, guillotine choke...

Will the 5 minute rest encourage roleplaying?

I'm thinking that the people who are going to roleplay in those five-minute downtimes are probably the same people who didn't really need any help from the rules finding times to roleplay. I guess I just don't see it changing anything.

    D&D 4E DDXP 4E Rules Appendix

Without time constraints, I'm not sure I see the decision. I just don't see what WotC has done to discourage a party blasting through limited resources and then resting up for the day after only an encounter or two. They've made it much more feasible to continue adventuring after blasting...
