    X-Files season 10

It feels a little like Carter sat with Oliver Stone and watched Torchwood: Children of Earth for inspiration so far. Sure, the aliens may ultimately be in the background, but stupid humans are behind most of the crap happening.

D&D 4E One thing I miss from 4e...the Saving Throws

So then cap all at 18. Without stat improvements, it would be that way anyway.

Moffat stepping down; no Who in 2016

I am leery of Chibnall, I loved Series 1 Broadchurch and thought "Hey, i'm digging his writing now, despite not liking his Doctor Who stuff" and then came Series 2 and "Oh, yeah, he's just okay". I also think they've kind of developed New Doctor/New Showrunner. IIRC they even did this in the...

D&D 4E One thing I miss from 4e...the Saving Throws

I honestly hate the cap at 20. It still has that bloat effect to it and makes numbers wonky. I would rather they capped at 18 under normal circumstances like 1E/2E if they were going to cap, and generally do away with stat increases. It's a hodge-podge as it is caught in a weird land of "stats...

D&D 4E One thing I miss from 4e...the Saving Throws

Conversely, it doesn't matter how great your dexterity is if you're too dumb to recognize what's about to hit you. Your idea actually actually plays in to my version very well. If you're good at one, good, but to be great you'll need both.

Stat bonuses in a class system reward specialization.

D&D 4E One thing I miss from 4e...the Saving Throws

You're thinking too binary. Reflex, for example, is not just because you recognize late and can still be quick enough to react, but also if you're intelligent enough to recognize a hazard and anticipate it. Intelligence, in many ways, is "mental dexterity". Same for Fortitude. Sure you may be...

    What 5e got wrong

I'm great with the idea also, math bloat has always been an annoyance, but again, the execution is lacking, which is my issue.

    What 5e got wrong

You completely missed the point. Stats (3d6 vs 4d6) are going to average slightly higher with 4d6, and 4d6 was common back in 1E/2E also. The point was that you could get away with lower stats in 1E/2E much easier because the bonuses were almost all smaller (except 18__ damage bonuses) and...

    What 5e got wrong

No, it's like saying "I want to cast spells without having to rely on INT" which, oh, look, Warlocks, Sorcerers, Clerics.......

    What 5e got wrong

Randomizing character stats is NOT intended to say "screw you and your character concept". Why should anyone waste their time playing the game then? You may make compromises, like going the CHA/DEX Paladin/Warlock route was not ideal, but fit enough of the criteria to go with. Unlike 1E/2E...

    What 5e got wrong

Interesting take. Here's where I'm coming from: I joined an in-progress game game, old school style with coming in at first level and stat rolling. I wanted an unarmored or lightly-armored divine or arcane melee swordsman who wasn't stuck being a Dex Monkey by an overly-limited system. Well...

    What 5e got wrong

The issue is, in many cases, the elements they chose were the worst ones. Multiclassing, for example. 1E, 2E and 4E all had essentially the same take, yet they chose to use the terrible 3E version and make it worse. There are so many good ideas brought about for 5E that were just botched in...

No WotC At Gen Con This Year?

Yeah, Baldman's running of things was pretty crappy my last couple of trips there. I'm also not planning on GenCon again any time soon. Their archaic and downright garbage registration system really turns me off. If the hotel registration doesn't crash, you can bet event registration will, and...

Do You Know Your Glaive-Guisarme From Your Bohemian Earspoon?

Pretty cool overall. Nits: The Claymore is a Bastard Sword with Scottish Stylings. Those calling the Basket-Hilted Broadsword a Claymore are incorrect, and repeating those that called it incorrectly doesn't change that fact. :) Yes, the Military Pick is actually what Warhammers looked like...

That's also possible. My experience with cancer/leukemia patients is it's usually not sudden in the middle of an activity but when they're too weak to keep going and their system shuts down if it's the cancer itself.

What do you put on a hot-dog?

I love good saurkraut, but it makes a standard dog too messy and dominates the flavor. Option B: ketchup and a good mustard (both light) Option C: Chili, cheese and raw onion Option D: Chicago Dog (minus the gross "sport peppers") Any of the three are fine. However: Option A: A better...

    Metal School

Something about Lemmy's announcement makes me ....suspicious. To me, it sounds like he may have gone the Robin Williams route, not that I don't think he has the right to do so.

    Star Wars Spoilers Thread [Spoilers]

I saw it during the opening showing and I have to say, I don't think I've ever been more disappointed with a movie. They assembled a great cast, the practical effects were nice, John Williams and the cinematography were on-point and then deliver a story that's nothing but rehashed drivel and...
