D&D 5E (2024) Does WotC view the Monk class as overtuned from their perspective?

This is one of those things where, people look at numbers or chances, but a lot of people, espeically in casual circles feel this way about monk. Like i feel their is just a huge disconnect from the general audience and enthusiasts about certain featurse even though the general audience reflect...

D&D 5E (2024) Does WotC view the Monk class as overtuned from their perspective?

most of these designers are 4e designers tbh. I think they value things quite similar to that then anything else

D&D 5E (2024) Does WotC view the Monk class as overtuned from their perspective?

This is something i have been thinking about a lot, and kinda is a serious thought i had, that some would see as crazy! but hear me out, as i feel it contextualizes their weirdness about the monk. I think there is a chance that they view the monk is a little overtuned, mainly because...well...

D&D 5E (2014) I think Wizards balances classes using damage on a single target nova over 3 rounds.

Its the only way it kinda makes sense at least from what im seeing, it goes back to my post that even if they are fighting more then 1 enemy, common formations can lead to it missing more times than not making it fishier for them.

D&D 5E (2014) I think Wizards balances classes using damage on a single target nova over 3 rounds.

They assume that for monsters but not PC's because a monster is always fighting more then 1 player, but a player is not fighting more then one monster.

D&D 5E (2014) I think Wizards balances classes using damage on a single target nova over 3 rounds.

Ive currently been looking into kinda how they loosely balance the budget of power of classes and after some minor resources and referencing some things in the DMG, and words of Crawford like them assuming characters are at full power for encounters. And somethings they have said about the...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizards values the power of conditions and noncombat effects as virtual damage.

Its not just that, but also the fact that thats the baseline. And they rated the "power" by the average damage over 3 rounds. You can kinda see the big issue, where they are assuming martials are novaing every round with action surge, all ki, all rage. When viewed that way they kinda out pace a...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizards values the power of conditions and noncombat effects as virtual damage.

So a long while ago i noticed something that was said by Jeremy crawford about monster design which is the fact they convert for matters of balance, things to virtual damage, via rating certain conditions equal to the power of certain spells levels of the condition appear. You can see him say...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

tbh the game seems more balanced around all classes novaing every round in my testing. With Martials just being able to get their nova back quicker(or longer lasting). If you dont nova every round the math/balance of the game is always harder then on paper.

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

My point is there is no way ot argue "just teleporting to another world" is not magical on some level, if that isnt magical, then magic is an innately pointless thing, its not magic its mundane. Magic is doing the impossible, things that literally do not make sense, that is the point of playing...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

They dont need magic to improve their abilities this is not what im talking about. Im saying if you want characters to do high magical things in utility, to remove "magical dependencies", then they will need magical items as they ar enot mages, do you understand what im mean? I agree martials...

D&D 5E (2024) Martial vs Caster: Removing the "Magical Dependencies" of high level.

DnD is a magical game, and most fantasy heroes rely on magical items, i feel people need to just get over this hang up. Magic items are expected to be gotten in the game, people argue it but they literally tell you this, why not embrace it.

Tbh, most of these dependencies can just be given away as magic items or blessings like Helm of Teleportation, well of worlds

D&D 5E (2014) Glory of the Giants, Book of Many Things and the Phandelver Campaign have all been delayed, no new 5e content until mid-August.

Originally as shown Glory of the Giants was supposed to come out in spring, Book of many things/Phandelver in Summer, and Planescape in fall. The recent revealed release dates for these books have all completely left this timeframe. Glory of the Giants is now coming out in August 15, mid...

D&D 5E (2014) Accounting for magic items in fifth edition.

I did the math of the average dpr of the PC's assuming their maximum output against the average health of a CR in each tier. THen i added power from the magic items, to see if it altered anytthing.

D&D 5E (2014) Accounting for magic items in fifth edition.

Accounting for magic items in fifth edition is always been a bit confusing to most people and players, people always assume, fifth editions balance requires no magic items, or anything, and that magic items, are simply separate from the core math of the game. Recently due to some words said by...
