8th Level Sorcerer needs new spell

I have an 8th level sorcerer that wants to swap out a 1st level spell (Ray of Enfeeblement) which simply has done very little for me in the campaign. I currently have chill touch, shocking grasp, mage armor, and corrosive grasp for 1st lvl spells. I was hoping for something more battlefield...

Good equipment for a Companion Familar

Great ideas! How about something that grants them "Magic Fang" (maybe with a permanent spell, etc.) or something that grants their bark Shout or other sonic attack ability. Also, ironically, does Cat's Grace help in any way? Bull's strength? A magic dog bowl that allows the use of potions...

    Suggestion on Build

If you want a magic-user of some sort, I would go with sorcerer. Much less effort, logistically speaking. I would go with a blaster or buffer archetype picking appropriate attack or buff type spells. There are many a thread out there on the best spell selections depending on the build...

    Starting a new M&M campaign...

I like that iceberg idea...after all, they did know that the Titanic was being used to smuggle the largest load of Cavorite ever! :-) However, H.G.Wells HAS perfected the Time Machine (it is being transported on the Titanic), and can send the party back in time to stop the iceberg incident!

    Starting a new M&M campaign...

The key to all this is to drop cameos of famous characters of the time, real or fictional. I think the exposition is what will make it fun. Don't come out with the explicit cameo. Instead, give obscure clues that open up later. See if they pick up on who it could be. For example, "You...

Use of music in a game session

There is no doubt that there is inherent complexity and difficulty in doing this. The music has its own timing and duration, none of which can be expected to match. I want to run campaigns so they have a cinematic feel. The background music is what it is...we can let that run all night long...

Use of music in a game session

Has anyone mastered the use of music as a gaming component beyond background, mood music? I would be curious to know if you have "thrill buttons" for when the party do something heroic, or if you have that "DUN Dun, dun" music for when they are about to bite it. Please don't reply with solely...

    what magic items to choose?

I am playing a 6th level sorcerer currently. I have about 2000 gp to spend. I can get some gold lent to me by characters. Does anyone have recommendations as to what magic items I could purchase and do well with? I was thinking of two simple things...hat of disguise or a metamagic rod...

    role-playing accents, dialects, voices, etc.

THANKS EVERYONE!!! I didn't expect so very many great ideas and comments. I must say, that all the posts gave me something to consider doing. The ideas that made be laugh were: Chistopher Walken--(Kevin Spacey hosted SNL and did a skit with several imitations of unseen Star Wars auditions...

    role-playing accents, dialects, voices, etc.

As a player, I would like to try to make my characters have unique ways of speaking, but I find myself falling back to Irish/Scottish accents or a non-descript country twang--all of which I don't do well for my characters so far in our Medieval Fantasy realm. I also can never choose between...

    Searching for the Best Music

I am sure this is in there, but to simplify a few searches... Girallon's Blessing + Spell Flower spells

Can these spells work together such that I can have four simultaneous shocking grasps to attack with on a full attack action? Do the claws impede the subsequent casting of the touch spells? I like that combination, if you can cast that many and have a reason for trying to do such damage.

Joke Names you've never used...but want to.

I like playing halflings and gnomes because they need to have long, silly names. My gnome locksmith/exterminator (he was a poor honest businessman who learned rogue skills like trapmaking, lockpicking, etc.) had the name Bayleyburgle Fiddlewick. The name isn't particularly belly-busting funny...

    moral dilemmas

Besides the typical "do we turn in the bad guy or just kill him" scenario, what have been some simple, yet excellent moral dilemmas DMs have given their PCs? My DM gave me one and then I gave it to my son who is 10 yrs old. I was playing a NG barbarian at the time; my son was playing a NG...

    Cruel DM stuff

As a DM, what has been the cruelest thing you have done to the party, or to a particular player? And when I say "cruelest," I mean a twist, punishment, monster, or something so amazing awful that the victim(s) couldn't help but laugh--at least for a moment.

    strength affect on range

I see your point, but I think also think that when my son (who's 10) throws a baseball (str 6), I (with a mod Str of 9) throw it further by several yards. In real life, 5 feet can be deceiving visually as negligible, but it can make the difference when you are playing a game that requires...

    magic falconer's glove

I don't own all the books, so there maybe something like this out there. Is there a magic item for aiding the handling of birds of prey (hawks, eagles, owls, etc.)? If not, what do you think of a low level item that grants bonuses (thinking +10) to Animal Empathy, Handle Animal, and Knowledge...

    Low-level Dungeon: Need an inhabitant

ABOYD... You are right...the thoqqua is a CR 3, but you can always modify size. The choker is a CR 2 and should be good--plus there is an easy out if the DM plays it right--give clues that it is very hungry. Hopefully, someone has some tastier rations. Personally, the suggestion of the Derro...
