What is the best "generic" setting?

I'd say Greyhawk. Too much support can equate with too much canon, which can create problems if the DM changes something in the setting and later support contradicts it. While you specified the latest printed version of Greyhawk, I'd suggest at least thinking about getting a pdf of either the...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

I'm disappointed to read this. I'm not sure what you're saying here. What do you mean by "100% of every product"? Will Kalamar products in general change tone to reflect HackMaster's sensibilities? I'm willing to give it all chance. In the meantime, could you explain why Kalamar is a good fit...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

I've never felt Kalamar was a good fit for HackMaster. Matter of fact, they seem almost complete opposites in theme and atmosphere. I vastly prefer that Kenzer use the setting they already developed for HackMaster, and which is still referred to regularly in the comic - Garweeze Wurld, or...

    D&D 4E Does the OGL/D20 liscense hurt 4e? Should 4e be open?

Now that I'll agree with. The d20 license has seen its time come and go.

    D&D 4E Does the OGL/D20 liscense hurt 4e? Should 4e be open?

It matters to me in the sense that I know it'll be at least somewhat compatible with baseline D&D. Also, it bears the promise of seeing material I really like get used in other games, making them all compatible with each other. That's a big draw for me. I don't know why you'd say that. There...

    Technology and magic

Monte Cook's "Ptolus" as a setting, and more importantly, as one of the test-beds for D&D3e, takes magic into account. It might be worth taking a look at, if you know someone with it. In general, though, I can't think of anything in any of the rule books that deal with this at length. I know...

    OotS 476 is up

I thought Thulcondar was talking about how Belkar just so happened to mention "Order of the Stick" within earshot of the critter.

First take - Crown of the Kobold King

Besides the general quality of the module, this is the exact thing that jumped out at me on my first reading. SPOILER ALERT While the "what happens later" material was given as suggestions for what might happen with any given kid later on in their life due to the events of the module, it...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

There is only one edition of HackMaster. "4th Edition" is just what they call it, to perpetuate the joke/illusion of a long-running game line.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Say, y'know what would be cool? In any adventures that are published that have been mentioned in KoDT as being played by the Knights, I'd love to see sidebars that mention how the adventure went for the Untouchable Trio +1.

That's actually pretty durned funny

Do you announce Damage Reduction immediately?

To address this again, since what Asmor posted jogged my mind a bit...characters know whether the blows they deliver are full on or glancing, and can tell how damaging they were, even if only in general. So if they only do a point of damage to a 100 hp monster, they know they didn't do much...

Do you announce Damage Reduction immediately?

Whether you buy it or not, that's how it's described when I'm DMing, which is all that matters. My table, my world.

Do you announce Damage Reduction immediately?

Precisely. Something like "the blows of your weapon do not seem to fall as heavily upon the creature as you would expect, given the force you applied" or "your weapon strikes but does not seem to bite as deeply as it should have" is the way I've described it.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Regardless, this is good news, mostly because it's concrete news. Any hints/ideas of what you guys may be considering doing for HM? Personally I'd like to see a few original modules that draw inspiration from the ones mentioned by characters in KoDT, such as the Temple of Horrendous Doom, or...

That seems more reasonable to me.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Yeah, y'know, if anything, there have been vague denials that a new edition of HM was in the works. At least, that's the impression I've gotten everytime I've seen the question posed. I assumed A&8s was a test bed for a new edition of HM - I'm sure a lot people did. Regardless, this is very...

Aces & Eights has been out for weeks now. It seems to have sold well at the game shops I've been to, judging how quickly the stacks of copies disappeared.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

FUDGE no, but OSRIC, yes, I hope. That is, I think HM's entire identity is closely tied to the AD&D system. I'd like to see it continue to be so. Otherwise the point of the game's existence is essentially lost. Perhaps using OSRIC would help alleviate another problem, the one concerning those...
