advice to anyone still wondering if they should purchase a DDI subscription today

Except that Vince Offer is a paid spokesman, while the opinions in this thread are unpaid and unsolicited. That is, the people talking about how good DDI is are doing so because they honestly think DDI is good. Huge difference.

[Goodman/BDP] Critter Cache III: Animals & Beasts released!

I just want to again express how much I like these kinds of supplements. These Critter Caches go right for the types of critters that caught my attention the most back when I bought my first Monster Manual in 1979. Sure, stuff like the beholder or bulette were cool and interesting, but...

    Adamant Entertainment: 2009

OK, this caught my attention. I hope this gets done. I liked the d20 version quite a bit. The historical info, info on seafaring tales and legends, and the sidebars on historical pirates really appealed to me. Would you be able to use any of the art from that? A lot of it, especially the...

[Goodman/BDP] Critter Cache III: Animals & Beasts released!

It is just about the right level - 17th level solo brute. Back in the day, it surprised me that no Kong analog existed in any of the official AD&D monster books. Isle of the Ape was the first time something like that was done, and I don't recall how long it was before it made its way into a...

[Goodman/BDP] Critter Cache III: Animals & Beasts released!

Yep. My bad. I was so enthralled with the apes, elephants, rhinos, lions, and tigers, I overlooked that! The eagles were another critter that I wasn't expecting, but loved seeing it; I really missed it in the Monster Manual. Fantastic job!

[Goodman/BDP] Critter Cache III: Animals & Beasts released!

I just bought this over the weekend, and it looks great. Not only does it have the yeoman's work you've done in statting these critters, but the artwork is outstanding and really evocative. Any chance of a dire/giant skunk showing up soon, maybe in the blog...?

    D&D 4E Green Slime for 4e?

Yeah, I know it's not such a big deal. I didn't post because I was in a panic over it. I was simply curious as to whether there was any treatment of it in the 4e books.

    D&D 4E Green Slime for 4e?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    D&D 4E Green Slime for 4e?

Yeah, I'd searched for it some years back, so I remembered it wasn't considered a "monster" anymore. It was a tad confusing, especially since it was such an iconic "monster" in the 1e MM!

    D&D 4E Green Slime for 4e?

Naw, these initial sessions are a "shakedown cruise" anyway, in which two of my original players from way, way back, plus one of their kids, have expressed interest in playing. The two older players haven't played D&D or any other RPG for close to twenty years - one of them was unaware that...

    D&D 4E Green Slime for 4e?

I'm about to run an old module using 4e rules, and in finding analogs for the monsters and hazards within, the only one that I've yet to find in a 4e book is green slime. I'm simply going to use the rules for it from the 3.5 SRD, but I was curious as to whether it was, indeed, in a 4e book and I...

[Goodman/Blackdirge] Critter Cache II: Prehistoric Beasts released!

I actually do like "behemoth" quite a bit when referring to dinosaurs.

[Goodman/Blackdirge] Critter Cache II: Prehistoric Beasts released!

While I actually like the new names, I have to disagree with this to an extent. What appearance did the words "deer" or "wolf" or "lion" correspond to, originally? Also, remember that dinosaur names, as well as pretty much any animal in the western world, are either Latin or derived from Latin...

[Goodman/Blackdirge] Critter Cache II: Prehistoric Beasts released!

Fantastic! PLEASE include members of the deer (deer, elk, moose, caribou, Irish Elk) family, if possible.

[Goodman/Blackdirge] Critter Cache II: Prehistoric Beasts released!

I just bought Prehistoric Beasts (as well as Big Bugs). I want to say how pleased I am with these purchases. The Prehistoric Beasts book, especially, covers its subject remarkably well, so that just about any given dino could be statted up using this book (along with the two behemoths from the...

Wizards, Armour and the Collective Consciousness

Maybe in the game books, but I can't recall an instance in Leiber's stories where he wore any armor. Didn't seem his style; he was more interested in being quick and maneuverable. Perhaps in later years, on Rime Isle, but I can't recall any specific mention of it. Plus, I don't recall him ever...

    How should I pronounce Tiefling?

githyanki - gith-YANK-ee otyugh - oh-tee-ugh Sehanine - SAY-hah-neen falchion - FAL-chee-un. I like the elegance of the "ee" sound in the middle, even though I know the pronunciation isn't exactly correct. reagent - like "agent," but with a "re-" prefix. treant - TREE-ant or TREE-ANT. Like...

I need ideas for brief, 3 player 4e D&D session

Thanks for all the good suggestions. It still may be a while before we actually play, what with the holidays hitting our doorsteps, so I may very well mix & match a little of everything that's been suggested here. Any other thoughts or suggestions for someone who hasn't run 4e yet would be welcome.

I need ideas for brief, 3 player 4e D&D session

No, and I was going to wait and see how well my players and I liked playing 4e before I subscribed. Thinking on it, though, it seems I can pay for a month, which seems worth doing. It's just that I thought I remembered seeing some good pregens available online somewhere.
