This "resting at 9:05 AM" business

Honestly, I don't know how you avoid it in some situations, especially confined dungeons. I guess I'm just a incompetent DM, but it seems to me that: It takes 6 seconds to walk 60ft at normal speed (granted, this is usually lower since you're waiting for the full-plate-wearing fighter and...

As a DM which do you like best?

Lots of world builders! I voted for adventures, however, because I like to construct fun challenges and I tend to do my worldbuilding/npc building as part of the adventure itself.

Tell me about your best (and worst) campaign endings

Excellent stories! Thanks for all the feedback. For posterity, I also found this over at Treasure Tables that deals with the issue: http://www.treasuretables.org/2006/11/how-to-end-a-campaign-according-to-plan There are six articles there overall.

What Is Your Adventuring Groups Name?

My players have dubbed their Shackled City group, The Bringers of Disease, Destruction...and Justice. They had to tack Justice on the end because they are actually good aligned and felt their original name was too evil. The disease part is in there because one of the PCs is freaked out by filth...

Men In Black, Cue Cards, and You.

Yeah, I keep meaning to post all the stuff I created for the Underoo games. Currently I'm using the BASH system with a lot of extra stuff tacked onto it. BASH is pretty good if you ignore some of the rules :D. The cards are actually just power-ups that get handed out during play to make it more...

Wizards who refuse to use blast spells

That was going to be my comment. The player casts the spell, IMC it's his job to remember (1) how it works and to (2) remind if I do something that I can't. So, just mark the mini or area as webbed/greased and when it's those monster's turn say, have the player remind you of the rules. It works...

Men In Black, Cue Cards, and You.

I have a similar mechanic in my Underoo Avengers game under the bash system, except that the catch phrases are bonuses gained through dropping foes (they appear as coins on the battle map that must be collected by moving over them). They include such things as: Taunt -- On your next panel...

    DM Encounter Advice

Hah, this thread is awesome. My $.02: As others have said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having over-CR and under-CR encounters in a game. It makes things way more interesting and can add that threat-of-deathyness that makes getting out of a combat by the skin of your teeth the best...

    Unconventional Situations and Rulings?

I do it on occasion, sure. Usually I do it to reward a player who actually describes his action, especially if the combat has turned into a dice slog. When I'm doing it for a player, I try to make it such that I give them some sort of bonus after they describe what they were going to do anyway...

Tell me about your best (and worst) campaign endings

So, next weekend, I'm getting a second chance. The end of my last campaign was rather disappointing, but due to one of our players moving out of town, we are reviving the old characters and the old world for one last hurrah. We're going to do a day-long session, and this time I want to end on a...

The Timer stopped and the message was...

And so the digital initiative begins! :o edit: I'm kidding, really. I'm sure their servers are catching on fire from all the unexpected traffic. In an odd way, that's a good thing.

What Cool Things Should the Rules Let You Do?

To be perfectly honest, I'd probably start by not making a list. The players' creativity an the situation at hand usually come up with way cooler things to do than what I can come up with beforehand. It's one reason that I wish I could get a group of RISUS players together for more than one...

[DannyAlcatraz] What do you do about the D&D-only player?

We're also a mostly D&D group, but there is really only one player who is not willing to play anything else. The rest of the group, however, is more than happy to go along and so am I. His argument is a bit different, I think. He came back to D&D after a long hiatus and bought a lot of the WotC...

    Gamers wanted in Boston

Our steady, weekly gaming group is looking for one or two members to help fill in a few gaps from some folks that have moved out of town. We generally game on Saturday afternoons (1PM-5PM, although we'll run later with everyone's consent). It's a great group of 25-35 year olds (5 guys, 1 girl)...

    Fixing the Assassin

Nifft has done some awesome work on that here http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=187901&page=1&pp=40 with his Martial Assassin. Replacing the assassin's spells with marital maneuvers (from Book of 9 Swords) makes a lot of sense and has a high cool factor IMO.
