    D&D 5E (2014) Innovations I'd like to keep in 5E

Nobody's denying that what you say was the case, what people are denying is that it's a good way to do things if one of your goals is balanced classes. So, yeah, sure, that's what happened in earlier editions, but what qualities did it have that are worth keeping around?

    D&D 5E (2014) Innovations I'd like to keep in 5E

I have not read the whole thread yet, but I figured I'd build my own list and amend it upon further reading/thought; 1; Equality of classes. I also noticed people seemed against homogenization of classes, though I can't claim I think the classes were homogenized out of unique flavor. I can...

    One on one offspring

My son, who's almost seven, wants to play D&D with me. I was wondering if anyone else had young children who wanted to play, and how they handled it. As of now, I'm going to do it one on one, but I'm not sure exactly how to handle it. So what have you done?

D&D 4E The reason 4E doesn't work well except for "Dungeon Delves" or "Encounters"

Fourthed. While 4th is designed around the encounter and dungeon crawl model, it is not necessary. I run only few campaigns where most encounters, if any, are in a dungeon crawl environment, the most recent being a notable exception, and my players have liked every one.

Playing a halfling, want to be more mean than normal. How do I go about this?

If you want a back-story for why your character's mean, just make one up. You don't really even need to explain it, he could just have an innately mean attitude. Maybe how cheerful everyone was in his community just bothered the piss out of him, and it made him krunk. Also, booze. I could...

D&D 4E The reason 4E doesn't work well except for "Dungeon Delves" or "Encounters"

When my group first got our hands on 4th edition, one of them trapped themselves in a magic ward that nobody in the town could break through. FOURTH EDITION IS BROKEN, RAWR!

    Character design help

At any rate, I've always considered the Ranger and the Barbarian to be the most biker-like, with a Rogue tossed in here or there. The spiked chain used to be a double weapon in 4th edition by default. My book says so. I hadn't checked the updates before my first reply. I imagine that change was...

    Character design help

When did that change? At any rate, you can take a feat for it to be. However, I'd go with a Barbarian, then.

    Character design help

I would suggest Ranger right from the top of my head. Firstly, the spiked chain is a double weapon, best used by someone who can use two melee weapons at the same time. Secondly, the ranger is tough, but not defender tough. The Ranger is probably the largest damage dealing class in the game, so...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E in a non-magical world

... Defender? I've only seen a few barbs in action, but I'd presume their inability to mark and generally low defenses, plus powers encouraging general recklessness, would lead to poor tanking abilities. However, I could see a few trading of class abilities between the Barb and Fighter making a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

It's not even about the variance, it's about the decision to remove the stats as they are or not to. The only reason you'd remove them is because they don't actually do anything, mechanically. Their only use is to determine their granted bonus, which is used. So if we remove them as they are, we...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

With a nine strength, if you swing a baseball bat at something, due to how weak you are, you're less likely to hit (or, at least, it's more likely to get deflected harmlessly) and, if you do hit, it won't hurt as bad. With a 20 strength, you're so incredibly strong that not only are you 25% more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Well, it's similar to how they worked in second, at any rate. In the current edition, there's nothing to differentiate a stat check from a skill check unless it's a skill you get some bonus to, making it a higher total bonus for that particular check. All "checks" are stat checks, but with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Nobody's entirely rational. This hobby exists because people are not entirely rational. This is purely for entertainment, based on people's subjective tastes. Ignoring your fan-base's desires in order to do something the way you prefer means you lose fan-base. WotC, and TSR before it, is a...

    Creature size and cover

Yes. While I'm sure that takes their size into account, it's not specifically a size modifier, and I can see how that might bother some people (sort of (not really)).

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

The only reason it makes no sense is because your actual stat isn't used anywhere, only the modifier. In older editions, your actual stat was used in some situations. I understand how it may throw off new players, but you have to consider how many people consider it a staple of the game and may...

    D&D 5E (2014) What if 5e had 2 types of roles

Anyone can cast rituals if they want to spend the feat. I could see having the option to take utility powers from a "general" pool in addition to class utilities, however. Perhaps maybe even by "power source" instead of general or by class would work even better.

    Dynasty Warrior style campaign

I already ran it by one player who thought it sounded awesome, and I'm almost certain another 2 or 3 would find it very enjoyable. A few others may or may not play, but those are the ones who don't reliable show up anyhow. Thank you for all of your input. I'll definitely look into the Mob thing...

    D&D 5E (2014) What if 5e had 2 types of roles

Couldn't you choose your combat role with a simple selection of skills? I'm not saying the general idea this thread puts forth is at all a bad one, only that's it's unnecessary. Why bog down the rules with non-combat clases instead of simply giving each class the same number of trained skills...

    Creature size and cover

Ah, of course. I, for some reason, supposed the combat had not yet started, that they were positioning for an ambush. In that case; No full cover, no hiding. It's simple. Run behind a tree while an enemy can see you, he knows you're behind the tree, and can probably see your arm or fat booty...
