Redbadge's Campaign (there will be spoilers)

Let's just say that we were a bit stunned when Belicose's player rolls a D20 and says, "Well, we have a source to revive Nathan, right? I shoot him in the head." Rest of party, "Wait, no..." DM, "Well, that'd do it. Now Asabrey's really mad." Bellicose, "What, you mean he isn't leaving now?"...

    What if bonuses never stacked?

Hopefully (IMO), this theoretical system would have 0 situational feats. The goal would be to have a variety of always on, interesting feats, that players can get excited about taking, but which limits the possible range of the math (to better predict challenges with regards to optimizers vs...

    Simplified Rolls

Just one more thing, maybe to get the lightbulb to click? Roll 3d4 100 times and record each total. Then count the number of 7s and 8s compared to the number of 1s and 12s. You'll see that the extra combinations don't cancel out, quite logically, no higher math involved.

    Simplified Rolls

Expanding once more, hopefully in even simpler terms, here are some possible results for 3d4: 1, 1, 1 1, 1, 2 1, 1, 2 1, 1, 4 1, 2, 1 etc. If you completed this chart all the way out to 4, 4, 4 you would see that there are 64 different possibilities (whereas 1d12 only has 12). The explanation...

    What if bonuses never stacked?

Well, a leader could still have buff options. Some effects I might consider on an at-will attack: An ally you can see gains combat advantage against the target until the end of their next turn. An ally you can see gains a +X bonus to their next attack (probably +3, +4, maybe as high as +5). An...

    What if bonuses never stacked?

Wanted to add that in my dream scenario, magic items still matter, which is why items/enhancement bonuses are excluded from the non-stacking. Also, I hate magic item Christmas trees (in other words, a slot for every magic item, and a magic item for every slot) or the need to have items to keep...

    What if bonuses never stacked?

I like it to an extent. I think there is room for a few different types of bonus: For example, in a hypothetical altered version of 4e a basic attack with a longsword might be +3 strength modifier, +3 proficiency modifier, and +1 enhancement/inherent modifier for a total of +7 vs. AC (at any...

First session from a player's perspective

*More spoilers* We've made it to the lighthouse on Axis Island so far, and we'll work our way up the docks to infiltrate it next session (when we last left off, we had just swam up behind the boat by using Water-breathing, in order to avoid the lamp-lit bridge). Last night, I helped the DM...

Batman: The Killing Joke -- crap

I thought the same thing about Watchmen when my brother-in-law got me to read it a few months before the movie came out. I thought it was obvious, trite, and predictable, things it was supposedly famous for not being. Quite honestly, I was bored. The movie was worse.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announcement and Prognostication

Actually, I think your right about the importance of RPG sales for FLGS. We have four (maybe more?) local "RGP" stores within an hour of where I live (Destin, FL). One is a comics shop, one focuses mostly on wargaming and Magic, one is a local bookstore with primarily manga, but also a...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announcement and Prognostication

I found one of my posts about my estimates for RPG marketshare. http://www.enworld.org/forum/5622002-post458.html Basically, of the approx. 4,000,000 (or less) of so-called "regular" players of TRPGs, at least 2,000,000, or 50%, regularly play 4th edition (admittedly by my skewed, unscientific...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announcement and Prognostication

Do you mind providing a link for this information? Everything I've seen over the last three years seemed to indicate that, although sales of 4th Edition have dropped off significantly recently, taken all together initial and subsequent 4e releases sold more than 3.0 and 3.5 combined. (I provided...

    Adamantine Weapon

This may be redundant because all weapons dealing untyped damage already "ignore any [typed] resistances not just untyped." For example, a basic, non-magical longsword ignores Resist 5 fire. It also ignores Resist 5 Cold/Resist 5 Acid/Resist 5 Lighting and Thunder. A +3 Adamantine weapon...

D&D 4E Help me eliminate scaling from 4e!

A little bit of my rescaling work is attached in pdf format. People looking to use the methods discussed in this thread should probably start here. My goal with these numbers is to be having average players hitting on an 8 or above without CA (for example, level 1: +4 stat +2 prof +1 inherent =...

D&D 4E Help me eliminate scaling from 4e!

The best thing is that the world feels a bit more... something. I was going to say realistic, but that's not really it either. Let me try to explain... I did this recently, though not to the extent the OP suggests. Players didn't get the half-level scaling bonus or enhancement bonuses (though I...

First session from a player's perspective

Just opened up my report from another computer. It seems the font I used doesn't always show up right in some versions of Word. For those of you that are reading the report and scratching your head at poor formatting, I just want to say that my original report (and the one that I printed out for...
