Help on handling Ready actions before opening that door

You can't ready outside of combat. You can't start combat until you are taking hostile actions towards each other. It is when that first person does something to trigger combat that you get into initiative order and can ready actions. And until you act, you are flatfooted. To do otherwise is...

    Feinting in Combat

Hrrm, that could cause problems. There isn't really a state of "being flanked" in the game mechanics. It's the misconception of such a state that leads new players to ask "Well, if those too guys are flanking the monster, then I should get a +2 to hit from over here right?". The answer, of...

    Divine Power and Righteous Might

I don't buy into the idea of a spell retroactively recalulating it's bonus every time your stat changes. I think it makes much more sense for it to just stack like everything else dose. So yes, the order in which you cast these two spells matters, at least in my campaign.

    Feinting in Combat

Well, if you feint and have Expert Tactician, at least you'll break even if you succeed :). But in general I agree with you; not very useful for non-rogues unless you are fighting Will-o-wisps.

    Illusion Question - Image Spells

That is quite an oversight! The conservative reading would be that you can create "an object, creature, or force, as visualized by the character.". One such thing per casting. So you create "an orc" and you can make it run around and do whatever you want within the area of effect and that's it...

    Druids and Oriental Adventures Armor

Re: Re: Druids and Oriental Adventures Armor Umm, the SRD indicates that it is very much (as in exactly) like a regular suit of armor enchanted to plus 2: And just a side note about using OA stuff, my druid is a half-orc shamman type from the steppes (rather Mongolian). We're playing in a...

    Druids and the Ironwood spell

The spell description says: Target: 5 lb. of touched wood/level This is a 6th level spell, so that is 55 lbs. when you first learn the spell. Since even full plate only weighs 50 lbs, the weight is not really a consideration. You get a full suit for 11 days it seems (not that you would be...

    Druids and Oriental Adventures Armor

Some of the armor in Oriental Adventures looks like it is better than the druid-fare found in the PHB. And it looks to be made out of kosher materials, for example: Leather Scale (light armor with 3 AC) and Dhenuka (medium, rhino hide with 4AC) Do you think a druid could wear these? If you...

    Gratis the healing Mage?

In Oriental Adventures there is the Wu Jen class, which is pretty much a cleric who gets spells like a sorceror. They are element based and the Water school is all about healing. If you want a ready-made list of spells for a Healing school (or healing domain), check out pg.92 of OA. The Kitsu...

    Movement in Combat: FAQ needed!

That post about the Full Round Actions was right on; I wish I has said all that :). I was trying to think of a summary that might help:

    Movement in Combat: FAQ needed!

For anyone (or anything) to get more than one attack in a round, they have to use the full attack action. This includes critters. So a beastie can move and attack once, or not move (or just do a 5ft step) and attack with all of it's attacks. Note that the "Charge" action allows you to combine a...

    Movement in Combat: FAQ needed!

Ok, so you're looking at getting a handle on the basics; apparently coming from a 2nd edition campaign. We should be able to help you out there. Here's my first-pass at your questions, others will undoubtably clarify and correct as needed.: >what is a partial action? What is a full action...

How do you differentiate Gnomes from Dwarves and Halflings?

I would emphasize the gnomish affinity for magic and technology to set them apart. The halflings seem fairly childish and carefree. The dwarves are dour and stolid. The gnomes are clever and inquisitive. Pranksters perhaps, but "dignified" pranksters :)

    Storing money where?

I think it is traditional to put all of your extra money into a locked chest. Then you give the chest to the next carrior crawler that comes by so that he can carry it to some random room in the nearest dungeon. At least that is the only way I can figure out that all these critters have all...

    Zone of Respite

This spell is found in the Manual of the Planes and is meant to prevent interplaner "intrusion" within the area of effect (which is very large and lasts 10 minutes per level). Last session, we came up with a disagreement about how to interpret the text of this spell. I'm sorry that I don't have...

    Animal friendship scrolls

You could befriend a number of HD dependent upon the scroll. But you can only maintain your (actual) level so they are not going to stick around very long. The spell make them like you, but they will not continue to like you if you cannot care for them properly. That caring is based on character...

    Con drain, HPs=?

A more interesting question is what happens to damage. Say you are level 10 with 16 CON and 100 hit points. What happens if you have taken 25 points of damage and THEN lose 6 points of CON? a) You maximum HP drops from 100 to 70, and you currently have 70 hit points. or b) Your maximum HP...

    Fireball/Lightning Bolt Abuse?

Exactly. It does not say you get to pick the grid line or intersection that it goes off on. Ask the player to specify a direction, distance, and height. Only THEN do you get out the ruler and place the center of the detonation. As an alternative, you might want to allow the player exactly 6...

    Exotic WP w/o martial WP

Note that it does not list "Marital Weapon Proficiency" as a prerequisite so we can ignore that particular house rule for this argument. If you take this feat with a Bastard Sword, then you can "make attack rolls with the weapon normally." So when you attack with a bastard sword, you will make...
