    Your best Monster

Nice idea. A new topic at the very least... *idea* Heehee, I'm off to go make a topic.

    League of Legends

My best friend came up to visit and convinced me to give this game another shot. It was a bit better than last time. For the most part. For one thing she, an actually good player who doesn't quit in the middle of the game, was on my team. No desperately trying to fight an entire enemy team by...

    Evil DM Moments

Most evil I've done was trigger a pitfall beneath the players in a dungeon. One failed his save and fell into the room below, so I drew it out for him and then slowly and methodically began filling nealy every 5-foot square of the cramped room with markers, giving no indication of what they...

    Opposites Align

My most recent campaign has a bunch of characters, and especially alignments that form an interesting group. Two chaotic evil, one true neutral, and a lawful good that all manage to work together. They're essentially an evil party with a token good teammate who doesn't mind being with them...

    How to punish a metagamer?

That's pretty much the general way of thinking all over this place. Post a thread discussing a minor problem you have with a player and ask for solutions other than booting them. It'll be suggested several times anyways. I wonder where the boot-happy attitude arises from. It took me months to...

PCs who don't seem to want to meet

Probably. I never fail to overestimate players though. I go into situations thinking "they can't possibly be stupid enough to do that" ("that" in this case is this, but it can be any number of things depending on the situation). Then lo and behold they do whatever "that" is, and I'm left...

PCs who don't seem to want to meet

Personally I'd have worked with the DM. Went aside and said "look, my character doesn't really think he should join the party for these reasons, but I don't want to slow things down too much. A dream would probably convince him to join and then we could get this started. It doesn't overstep any...

PCs who don't seem to want to meet

It's occurred in nearly every group I've been in. It's not just one group doing it, it's as though it's the normal attitude for players around here.

PCs who don't seem to want to meet

Realistically, individual members of a group should know that we play as a group and that the DM has built an adventure for a group. Most often in groups I've been in they've seen the PCs of their fellow players through the creation process long before the game ever begins. Is it too much to...

PCs who don't seem to want to meet

Perhaps the title is a bit of an extreme assessment of the situation I've seen one too many times. What I'm talking about is that first scene of the first session when the PCs haven't met yet. The DM expects them to meet, and generally they do. But with several of the groups I've been in, and...

    Your best Monster

I have fun with oozes. Coming up with a new thing to do with an ooze each time one appears is a good exercise in creativity, and often hilarious.

She. Not he. But yeah, that is why I don't overwhelm them with details.

    Called Shots! Poll & Discussion

I voted other. I don't mind called shots, but I don't want to bother with another layer of calculations and complications, so I don't generally use them.

    Finally reading the trilogy...

I've finished reading The Crystal Shard now. I rather enjoyed it. Villains are always my favourite characters. Even the screaming, hammy, power-crazed wizards. Okay, maybe especially those ones. Eh heh heh heh...

Things to establish before session one

My group was almost entirely introduced to roleplaying by me, so the first few sessions I didn't really establish much in the way of "this is how we're going to handle levelling up", or "this is how we'll handle character death", etc. I didn't really want to overload them with details since they...

    How to punish a metagamer?

It wasn't a failed spell though. The spell worked, and made him give up the item. I would agree that he would have realized it if the spell had failed, but I'm not so sure about that considering the spell actually worked. That's why I asked whether he saw it being cast or not.

    How to punish a metagamer?

Hunh, that's a bit of an overdone example huh Felon? (Who ever exclaims "Fooey upon you" anyways?) Has it been said whether the wizard cast the spell behind the fighter's back or not? I'd argue that if the wizard cast it at him from right in front of him then yeah he'd certainly have a good...

1001 minor traits for magic swords

    222) The scalpel of death. This blade normally deals -1d6 (that's negative 1d6) slashing damage on each hit, effectively healing its target. The wielder keeps track of how many times it has been used to heal, and on a natural 20 this blade deals Xd6 damage instead of healing, where X is the...

    Shelving

I tend to use the bottom shelf for my heaviest books. It bends less because it's pretty much right on the ground, and for some reason the bottom shelf on all my bookcases always seems to be taller, as if to accommodate game books. They all came that way though.

    League of Legends

I'd say that was a big part of the problem. Or rather it was that they weren't playing at all and I was consistently forced to try and do the work of five players by myself.
