Holly's Master of the Fallen Fortress Journal

This adventure has just concluded, and one of my players was cool enough to write a journal of it from her PC's perspective and provide me with it. They were playing (and I was running) the free Pathfinder module, Master of the Fallen Fortress, with some changes by me to set the adventure in...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Daztur: Just noticed that on the map itself you seem to have put the warbling coast and saltwood (hexes 01.06 and 01.07) on the spaces for hexes 00.06 and 00.07. Just letting you know. Anyways... Hex 04.08: The Plains of Dogtur (And the settlement Dogtur) (Plains, Settlement) The long yellow...

Gaming Efficiency: do you get a lot done in a session

I have two groups. One is very fast. They get through most dungeons in a session or two, and despite constantly conversing and cracking the occasional joke the game never really slows down. They're all rather good at multitasking I think. My other group gets slowed down a lot. They're not as...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

There appears to be water on the map at 00.06 but I don't see an entry for that anywhere? Am I missing something? But hey, since there's bound to be ocean in places... Hex 01.06: The Warbling Coast (Ocean, Beach) A smooth, sandy beach runs for miles along the edge of the ocean here, broken...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Another one from me. :) What's with me and underground stuff anyways? The Tashtan Plains Type: Plain (Hex #02.08) The low hills of these grassy plains are quiet here, though not eerily so. Small animals graze the grass, the sun and moon shine bright through most days and nights, and the wind...

When modern ethics collide with medieval ethics

Murr... So an event which didn't really inconvenience the other players in any way other than prove them wrong is causing them to kick up a fuss and create extra work for the GM? Sounds like a bit of an annoyance. Probably shouldn't be allowed of them.

When modern ethics collide with medieval ethics

It's definitely not fair. I generally hand out short setting guides if we're in a homebrewed environment. Just bullet points of the important differences from what the players usually see. Different levels of punishment and respect based on one's rank in society would almost certainly be on such...

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

That was my thought too, and the reason I choose to place a river next to a mountainous setting with high-up water. You'll note the river flows south-east, i.e. directly away from your hex. It'd make sense for the water to be coming from there, and I figured that'd make it easy to connect them. ;)

    Let’s Make a Hexcrawl Setting

Eh, sure I'll take a shot at this. Entry #2: The Glass Rapids Type: Hex Description (Hex #05.05) A rushing river breaks the silence of the otherwise smooth stone landscape, the rocks just beneath its surface strangely crystalline in appearance, and deadly for one caught in the fast flow of the...

    OotS 836 is up..

Aw man, now I'm curious. And this doesn't seem like the kind of thing that we learn the rest about in the next strip after the cliffhanger...

    Drawing out the dwarf

To the more experienced people posting: I think the big issue here is that spotlight hogs can be intimidating to the shyer type of newbie. Just saying "wait your turn" doesn't really help if the shy ones then don't talk because they don't feel they can put on a similar level of performance. It...

    Drawing out the dwarf

Hm, that can be tough. I recall it happening when I first played the game too. One thing I might suggest is that you engineer a bit of inter-player roleplaying between the quieter ones. When they're in town find a way to split the party that isn't alarming/an emergency, and give the quiet ones...

Players: Do you wear/carry "props" to the game?

I have a couple times. Usually only if the game is happening at my house, or if I know the other players will be doing the same. Let's see... I had a wizard who's spell book I represented with my own book of shadows, I had a bard with a lute that was represented with a plastic Guitar Hero...

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

The Superior Summoning feat lets you summon an extra one creature whenever you summon more than one of somthing, and if you summon something 2 levels lower on the Summon Monster list you can summon 1d4+1. So it's actually an average of 4.5 per round. And as a master summoner the summons of the...

    My new, old-school experience.

Yup. I wasn't aware of it last year (my first year there) until after it had already passed, which was sad, so I'm thrilled I actually got to help out this year. Death 1: Rot grubs burrowing into skull Death 2: The same rot grubs (this one was our cleric) Death 3: Knocked unconscious by the...
