I like drow. I don't even mind having them a playable option. Sure, some people like playing good drow, but they all exist in different worlds (it's not like all Forgotten Realms players play in the same world... not counting Living Forgotten Realms.) On the other hand, I don't really see them...

They can't retire FR, they make too much money from the novel line. I'm sure if the game products don't sell as well we'll see fewer products, but they'll keep hold of the line.

Yep. Mainly only because the only reason I have a game is the players I used to DM for before 3.5 came out want to have their characters reach an end point before 4e comes out.

There's no option for what I think. I like what they're doing, (which is definitely no reboot). If it was a reboot, they'd be going back to the beginning and starting over, as they did with Battlestar Galactica, or they're doing with the upcoming Star Trek movie. What they're doing is...

But... Forgotten Realms has been like this from the beginning. If you've never liked it, fine, but it's not like this is new.

Why? Forgotten Realms has a history of major (aka Realms-Shaking) events. It's what sells the novel line. Eberron, on the other hand, seems designed to go the complete opposite way.

Now that I agree with. What I don't agree with is if it's the choice of the one adventure or not playing at all, and something like that gets thrown on them.

I have to agree here. It sounds like such a cool class, I'd want to see it. Hopefully it's released before too long.

Having been a Planescape fan as long as I've been a Forgotten Realms fan, I totally agree. The setting likely won't be picked up again if it's dropped.

Actually, most players I've talked to also hate winning that way. Big climactic fight and it's over before most of them get to do anything.

I don't know about Elminster, but other FR novels have wizards running out of spells quite often. Look at the Last Mythal trilogy, for example.

I don't know. A good half of people who say this ruined the setting for them also have said they haven't bought anything Forgotten Realms in 3-6 years, or more. So... they won't really be losing those people, since they'd already left.

Neither, since I'm not American. But, Remembrance Day is a big deal every year, schools give presentations, TV networks change their programming, and so on. And that was about the end of World War I. And, remember, 100 years may be a lot for humans, but in a setting with elves, dragons...

Actually, it's pretty much a necessity of selling novels. Many novel readers don't even look at D&D, and they'd brush off possibly good novels as bad writing if suddenly wizards (who make up a large portion of novel characters) work their magic differently with no explanation.

Why not? Did, after World War II, suddenly all the history that existed before it suddenly no longer get discussed? Because I remember taking history classes that went on at great lengths about it, and how what happened then shaped the world as it exists today. The cold war's over now too, but...

I don't get why some people are calling this a 'reset button'. That would imply that all the history is getting wiped out. That isn't true. Sure, Luskan may be destroyed, but they aren't suddenly saying it was never there. Sembia may be in chaos by the time of The Orc King's prologue, but given...

Well, *something* had to happen to Mystra to explain the differences in how magic works in the new edition. That was an obvious one to see coming. I just assumed it would be Shar doing something, originally. But, having Cyric do it ties things in a bit more to the original Time of Troubles.
