D&D 4E Unnecessary monster appearance changes in 4e

The one and only time I ever used minis in a D&D game, I used Mage Knight figures. (Which were, at the time, quite popular and inexpensive.) I've personally never seen having it match official art as all that important... as who says in my setting, they look that way?

Game spy interview with Christopher Perkins

Yep. Every campaign I've ever run, in any game system, has always had a story arc.

Game spy interview with Christopher Perkins

Basically, I usually give levels whenever I feel the players have earned it. During levels 1-5, this comes very quickly, usually once a session, then about every 3 or 4 sessions from then on. Or, sometimes, if I've written a story that requires a certain level by the climax, I'll balance based...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

So, why not, just like you didn't have an Elven Crusade in your game, not have the 100 year jump forward? Maybe even have a high-level campaign where your players can stop the spellplague. (Once we know more about what it is.) I don't think I've ever run a game, in any system, that takes a...

D&D 4E Are the 4E previews like turning it up to 11?

They have, actually, said the game has been in extensive playtesting. It's just been internal playtesting, rather than external, which most people appear unconvinced about. Personally, I have no idea whether internal playtests are enough. But, most RPG releases seem to go by just fine without a...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

After one small preview chapter, and without allowing time for people to get used to the idea, I think would be a little soon. I'm hoping there's more information available in Grand History of the Realms.

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

Well, I've now read the preview chapter, and I have to say I love it. As I said before, I love Forgotten Realms because the setting advances. Things change. This is a *major* change, admittedly, but I still like it. And, as I've said, and others have said, there's nothing stopping you from...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

I haven't read the preview chapter yet, so I won't comment on that. But I have to say that I really don't understand why the timeline advancing is so upsetting to people. It's Forgotten Realms, it's always done that. Time of Troubles, anyone? It's not exactly a new thing. Thus, if you like...

D&D 3.x Which 3E OGL/D20 books do you want to see re-released under the 4E OGL?

Personally, I don't think M&M needs a new edition to transition to 4e. It's so far outside of D&D as it is the only real thing I'd say they need to bring over is whatever trip/grapple rules 4e introduces. For that, they could probably just introduce it in a supplement. As for the rest, the...

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

Ok, I can see your point there. I haven't been able to find a D&D game since shortly after 3.5 came out, so I can understand. But, 4th edition is coming. Getting hostile at the people who are looking forward to it is more what I intended to ask about, since I was commenting to a 'division of the...

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

Given what I remember when 3e came out, we probably won't see an end to the fracture until the books are out. I remember people swearing up and down that 3e would be the end of D&D as they loved it, that because 2e had lasted so long it was perfectly playable that no new update was needed. Oh...

    Rules Changes Significant?

Yeah, it's funny. People complaining, at the same time in different threads, that there's too little and too many changes. I've seen in other threads how people want just a 3.75, rather than a 4th edition. Now some of the reactions in this thread. In any case, it's pretty obvious the changes...

You are chosen to play leader, what class will you take?

I chose Cleric, simply because I have no idea what Warlord will be like yet.

    New Design article: Elves

I don't mind this change. They made the wood elves the default in the core rather than the high/sun elves. That's fine. As long as other options are available in the FRCS. As for the Eladrin, I'm not too big on that change, but it's perfectly understandable.

D&D 4E Killing Time Before 4e Comes Out

I'll be continuing to play M&M 2e and SWSE online until 4e comes out... and probably after as well. (I doubt those games, since they aren't D&D, will be ending when 4e comes out. I'll just have to find a new game for D&D.)

Some D&D Insider bits (Update 9/13: Lots of new info)

Personally, I don't mind paying extra for miniatures. I just want the miniatures I want. ;) I'll probably still buy the boosters if it's the only option. I just hope it'll be a monsters-only selection option, so that we don't end up getting NPCs that we could have created with the character creator.

Leader Role: The end of the cleric?

Well, a lot of the problem with getting people to play clerics right now is they think that all clerics do is heal people. I think if they made clerics cool enough, it won't be an issue... or, people will be equally hesitant to play warlords, linking them with the classic cliche of a healer...

    D&D: Adventurers, Not Heroes

May I highly reccomend, if you can find a copy anywhere since it's out of print, the Game of Thrones D20 system from Guardians of Order? Combat in that game is so deadly players rarely even want to fight.

    D&D 4E Gaming, Gamers, Dollars, and 4E

When 3.0 was out, I got a lot of the books, because in general I was getting a lot of use out of them. When my gaming group broke apart, I only got the core books for 3.5, because I wasn't playing anymore. With 4e, I'll probably buy the core books and a DDI subscription, and then get any other...

Some D&D Insider bits (Update 9/13: Lots of new info)

Totally agreed. I'm just glad there'll be a cheaper option for those who just want to play the occasional game. Would it be nice to be able to play for free? Oh yeah, but I don't expect it.
