[D&DN] Open Playtest via Virtual Tabletop

I'm definitely interested in giving this a try. :)

    D&D 4E 4e players, why do you want 5e?

Actually, the 'accommodate all play styles' part comes when we get access to rule modules. (Or so they say.) Right now, this playtest is just the basic module-free rules.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

It affects me, yes. I have nobody to play with locally.

    D&D 4E 4e players, why do you want 5e?

I forgot about this, but yes, this is a big thing too. I think a recent interview said that 4e was designed so every player (and, extrapolated, every monster) got a moment to shine in every encounter, but that meant encounters have to last so many turns. Where 5e is, supposedly, designed for...

    D&D 4E 4e players, why do you want 5e?

I loved 4e when it came out. I played it for nearly two years online. And it was a fun... battle game. I hated the skill test system more every time one came up, so most of the enjoyment I got out of the game came from the battle itself. And, after a while, the lack of freedom of action (having...

    Hangout playtest forbidden?

I'm disappointed by this too, since I also have no local friends to test the game with. I was expecting it, but still disappointed.

    Inspiration? Where are you?

Books. Movies. PC Games. TV. Comics. Other RPG systems. Sometimes even my dreams.

Adamant Ventures 4th early as well

Why can't they come up with their own system, though? That's what Green Ronin's doing for A Song of Ice and Fire, and from what little I've seen so far it looks like a very good system at that. And there's still the OGL out there for people to use. It's not going away. I don't like the GSL...

What Free RPG Day swag did you get?

This is good to hear. This is the one thing I really wanted from Free RPG Day, and I have no gamestore near me.

Grand History of the Realm 4th edition?

Retcon means retroactive continuity. In other words, continuity that had been previously established is changed retroactively. No continuity changed with 4e Realms. The landscape changed, but if you have a character travel back in time 100 years, the Realms in the 3e books is what they'd find...

    Oots #569

Same here. I don't find puking funny, but I find Belkar getting punished finally very funny.

Honestly, if WoTC didn't create it would 4e be D&D?

Yep, totally agreed. That's why I've stayed away from the original post and was answering a specific question of would I be calling 4e a better game if it didn't have the D&D name? Yes, I very much would. Is it fitting of the D&D name? That's up for each person to decide. Personally, (though...

Honestly, if WoTC didn't create it would 4e be D&D?

By the majority? Probably not. By me? Most definitely. Just like I say that Game of Thrones D20 is better than core 3.5. Just like I say that True20 is better than core 3.5. Just like I say that M&M is better than core 3.5. Just like... well, you get the picture. There are a lot of better...

How does the GSL affect me?

Necromancer's still going ahead, according to Orcus on the Necromancer boards. Tome of Horrors won't be 4e, and they have to change APG some, but they're still doing 4e stuff.

When do Dragon and Dungeon go subscriber-only?

It'll be many, many, many months yet. They said they want to have most or all of the applications up before they start charging. And they expect to have at least a month gap between each of the application's releases. And the first one (last I checked) isn't even up yet.

How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

I personally don't care that people aren't switching. However, the online hostility drove me even from here for a while, and I'm only back as it is to see if there's any calming yet. Even Necromancer Games' forums, where the userbase is for the most part anti-4e, isn't as hostile to those that...

How does the GSL affect me?

I thought the 3e applications had a separate license from the OGL anyway? Didn't they (PCGen, ETools, and Hero Lab) actually directly license with Wizards to get approval to do them? I remember it being big news when the OGL came out that it didn't cover software, but admittedly I didn't pay...

    Age and Mortality

Actually, Drizzt acted very much like a young teen through most of those books. Sure, he physically matured fast, but in no way was he mature. Heck, he was still like an angsty teenager through pretty much the whole Icewind Dale trilogy too. (As an aside, I always saw it as Bruenor as being...

How important is one edition/game system to you?

I'll quite happily play any system I can get the books for. But, when G/DMing, I choose to G/DM the systems I prefer. I'll DM 4e, but not 3e or 3.5e. And don't have the books for anything previous. I'll GM Star Wars Saga or Star Wars D6, but not D20 or Revised. I'll GM Mutants and Masterminds...
