Curious on how you feel about critical fumbles? Whether that’s driven by GM narrates bad outcome on a 1 or GM rolls on table when a 1 comes up?
Because I see some potential parallels there. I guess the same applies to critical as well.
I think there's alot of nuance there, such that painting most people into the box of only wanting forward facing causality isn't necessarily true in all circumstances for them. While some here seem fairly consistent with that, others that want that playstyle don't mind it for seemingly minor...
Exactly.
The initial claim paraphrased 'too many coincidences makes something as a whole implausible'.
An excerpt about one individual coincidence can never be a counterpoint to that. Likewise, even combining a few excerpts into an example when they only constitute but a small fraction of the...
This wasn't to me but,
IMO, usually the most interesting outcomes aren't the most plausible outcomes. Thus, I think there's some inherent tension between a desire for interesting outcomes and a desire for plausible outcomes.
IMO. Generally people have a reason for why something doesn’t vibe for them. I don’t think reducing the conversation to simply ‘I don’t like that’ and ‘I like that’ is even a conversation worth having.
IMO. Fail forward usually invalidates some premises of traditional play.
Things like:
Success is completing the task not some extraneous intent. Example: you open the chest but don't find the incriminating evidence you intended to find.
Complications happen independently of your attempt to...
I agree with level 1-3 if we are just counting single target damage. Cleave is likely much better at this stage for damage, though it can be a bit DM dependent on how they position their enemies. You also lose out on useful Masteries like topple that don't up your damage, but instead increase...
I particularly like shields on Berserker and Zealot. The built in subclass damage bonuses pair well with the extra AC, even when reckless attacking. The combination of Beserker+Shield+Reckless+Sap+Sentinel would be a sight to behold, especially at level 3.
Halbred has Cleave not Push. I...
A good example might be your high str fighter using a rapier with vex vs the low str fighter using a rapier with vex.
Even something as simple as a greatsword with graze benefits the higher str character even more.
In real play these differences can really matter.
Following up on this. Wildshape felt a little underwhelming quickly. The temp hp and concentration boosts were nice though.
Moonbeam has become my favorite spell in both level 2 and 3 slots. The ability to move it over enemies and have it deal damage makes it the most reliable aoe spell I’ve...
Yea and I agree there. I just like to point out Barbarian survivability with resistance, reckless (and +5 con mod) isn’t nearly as good as most people assume it is.
Barbarians are more than mere brutes only capable of hitting things with a big stick. They are cunning warriors. This guide is to provide ideas for creating a Barbarian that does more than just big melee damage. Here I'm focusing on mostly lower level abilities, say level 10 and below...
The Fighter can use a vex weapon to help improve accuracy. Probably puts the comparison a bit closer to the 300% mark if not a bit under. Still agree with the main thrust of your point though.
I'm not as convinced on the survivability.
At level 2 (your using reckless) the Barbarian has 17+12...
Inflict Wounds. Bards are already full of good concentration spells, let him have a damage dealing spell for anything that gets too close.
I mean there's just not alot of good necromancy spells that are save dependent.
Is it even possible to have sucky ideas and not suck?
I mostly agree, except with the below.
I think most just silently watch the fireworks at that point.
