Are you really quibbling about describing this as 'the PC's action' vs 'the player's action declaration' such that you would say 'the player's action declaration' prompts X to happen in the real world but 'the PC's action' does not prompt X to happen in the real world? Because from my...

As long as you agree that the player decided what the outcome would be if/when success was rolled. You see, we fully understand that the player decided 'potential' outcome is gated behind a roll that must succeed before it comes to pass. That's never been the issue, nor the concept we are...

Indeed. I'm in constant disbelief that such a simple concept and obvious difference is repeatedly denied.

On player driven Do we all agree that the failure or success with complication states of fail forward resolution introduce GM-driven complications (at least for most games that implement it)? If not, why not?

The ai produces nothing without a prompt, much like a copier produces nothing without a human directing the copier to copy. We don’t blame xerox because a user directed the copier to output a copyrighted work. We blame the individual directing the machine to do that.

Even then theres a clear undertone that this non-conservative way would be better. Else why even mention the non-conservative way in the first place.

Which at best shows some tools enabling infringement can be found complicit. Not that they generally will be.

Hold on. You said tools that enable large scale infringement are generally found complicit. I asked about copy machines and torrents both tools enabling large scale infringement and both not found complicit in it. Your next answer elaborated but didn’t fundamentally disagree with this assessment.

So you agree said tools won’t be illegal.

Copy machines and torrents aren’t generally illegal.

If I had to sum up what I’ve learned this thread it would be that the causality I’m worried about isn’t the fictional causality but rather the simulation causality. Which presupposes a simulation to begin with. It’s that underlying assumption of simulation vs no simulation that makes...

Training the model can be transformative while specific users using the model to produce a copyrighted work could be viewed as infringing. That’s the line I expect to be drawn.

So you fully recognize the there’s a difference by virtue of ‘not all narrativist games have this feature’. Prior you proceeded to make me jump through hoops to explain that a difference existed, none of my explanations even sufficed, leading me to believe you thought there was no difference at...

From my perspective I cannot think of a single example that would render who was in the mask as mere color. Certainly none of your suggestions come close to that for me. And even more so as to why they were in it, if it is cursed or worn purposeful is also even further beyond mere color from...

On the runes, I’m thankful for the example because it’s the clearest example yet of exactly what we claim is happening in narrativist games actually occurring. 100x better than the old Evards Black Tower example which always gets muddled in the ‘memory’ side discussion. Addressing the ‘it’s...
