    Lowballing Animal Companions

If your DM still doesn't accept the Specific > General rule, then perhaps this will change things. This entry is from the Book of Exalted Deeds for Animal Companion rules notably of a different class, but notes Druid and Ranger. Since the EDL is for either Ranger or Druid, and the rules still...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

Out of curiosity when did FoM only affect mental impediments?

    Lowballing Animal Companions

But according to you, there was a contradiction in the PHB to begin with. The FAQ DID address such in this case. I'm sure there are numerous other contradictions in the game that haven't been or might never be addressed, but the ones out already have been. The PHB Errata came out in 2006...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

You won't find more of an official source than a WotC employee. Perhaps Hold person or the Paralysis or FoM was revised somewhere to change its effects. Who knows. Regardless at that point it is you ignoring such, no longer an obstruction of the rules. Several sources have noted it, referenced...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

From the FAQ section from the WotC staff. Which was already kinda elaborated in the PHB already. The FAQ is an official source by WotC. I can provide the FAQ (I don't think such a source is against the rules AFAIK for clarification purposes) if you like. Also as a newer source, it also trumps...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

That's a bit confusing the way you put it. The Ranger's and Druid's Animal Companion ability is the exact same. (In functionality.) The Ranger is just counted as half, regardless of what class levels he has in Ranger. If any other class had 'Animal Companion' specifically without such notations...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

@Greenfield Even if that was the case however, the Ranger Animal Companion entry specifically notes its restriction. Even with an example. Which is what overrides the rules of the sidebar entry. It says the companion acts as half of a druid's companion. In most cases when an exception is...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

@Greenfield As vague as it is; I see the entry where you are reading that, the Animal Companion sidebar. "Class Level: The character's druid level. The druid's class levels stack with levels of any other classes that are entitled to an animal companion (such as a ranger) for the purpose of...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

@Greenfield Actually if you read the entry on the Ranger's Animal Companion it DOES reference EDL, which is the second paragraph of the ability. PHB; p48. Those are RAW and I don't see how that could stray from anything. Empirate's FAQ entry and most feat entries also reference this. And its...

    Wereserpent & Druid Queries

Alright, so changed the title to fit more use out of it than it otherwise will, this particular question pertains to Druid's and a few of their prestige classes. This build is debating choosing which to chose first or if there is more recommended builds as well as some issues with RAW. The...

    Rebuke and Command...a dragon?

Well, not entirely sure what do for the White dragons in terms of domain powers. There might be a book not from core that affects creatures of the Cold subtype. I am a bit surprised such rules can be applied to creatures like dragons since there are a number of books with feats that give you...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

Would take a few years to do that. XD Not sure what the rules would be when applying age affects to companions already existing. Most DM's don't do age for monsters usually. But its been said that a Druid's HD bonus does not cause a creature to 'advance' in any typical creature progression...

Here take my +5 Cha Ink pen and then captivate the players. ^..^ Good luck.

    Lowballing Animal Companions

Why not just halt the actual druid progressions in such a case then? Keep him at that technical '-6' stats. He wouldn't gain any druid bonuses until he cleared that penalty bonus. The only increase would be his creature stats. Though its a bit odd, since your doing both monster advancement and...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

Unless the Druid just chooses to keep it in its lesser form or just allow the monster to advance normally (normal as in no druid effects). Essentially, they wouldn't be losing any Druid effects, the effects would essentially be replaced with its improved form. (If they actually go lower than the...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

Don't really see how it screams abuse to be perfectly honest. When most entries refer to the animal companion and its level, it almost always cites druid levels. Such as Natural Bond: Benefit: Add three to your effective druid level for the purpose of determining the bonus Hit Dice, extra...

    Homebrew spell: Baeril's Lizardskin Coat

That's where Heroic Surge comes in handy. ^..^

    Homebrew spell: Baeril's Lizardskin Coat

I do agree with most of your points, though in some cases it would still be a hindrance. Especially the unfriendly nature of creatures in a non acceptance area. (Your allies can't talk you out of that one.) But isn't that the point of a build? Take your advantages, cover your weaknesses? Even...

    Lowballing Animal Companions

The book does say that creating appropriate equivalents is fine as long as the DM accepts it (and the player accepts the downgrade until ready). I would have no issue with this at all and allows a player to still keep the creature they want.

    Homebrew spell: Baeril's Lizardskin Coat

Ah, normally such instances still require Acceptance checks no? (I know Dragonlance does especially, I believe they created such.) Base races get no such penalty. (-4 to all charisma checks, +25% item cost, unfriendly attitude.) Unlike lizardfolk, humans and other base races also come in alot...
