Confirm or Deny: D&D4e would be going strong had it not been titled D&D

I hear what you're saying, and I think this is a thoughtful post, but I don't think nostalgia plays as big a role as you think. All of the people I know who still play an older edition just love it. They don't break anything down and talk about "design" the way modern game whizzes do. They...

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

It's by far the best advice for a general audience. If you in particular feel like a different approach would be better for you, it may be. There is a limit to how far I can advise you. Your players might not all feel the same way about it, I would caution you, further. Even if you have a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

If your players ask you ever if you fudge anything, always tell them no.

D&D 5E (2014) Do monsters benefit from a long rest like adventurers?

Typically, the monsters should be able to rest like the PC's. In general, if they step away to recharge, when they come back the monsters should either be recharged, too, or reinforced.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

What I'm saying is that it's actually immersion that's at stake. The DM can't cheat, not because he has the authority to do anything (which he does), but because he isn't ever trying to "win". The players will get immersed in the game, and if that is "sold" as going by the dice and not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Short rests -- how often in a day?

Don't expect players to take the same number of rests, short or long, in any particular time interval. There are some groups which don't want to take a single rest, and others who will try to stop and fully replenish their hit points and abilities at every opportunity. Just try to keep them...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else feel like the distinction between conjuration and evocation is really muddy?

The differences should be clearly defined, not least because those were opposing schools in the past. However, they aren't laws. Someone could research a spell that conjured an energy, and another which evoked matter. It's not so much a question of what is produced, but how it is produced.

Chris Perkins: Reintroducing Settings in Ways that Surprise People

It sounds terrible. The point of a pre-published setting is to include what fans enjoy from it, not to surprise them with changes that may not be well received.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

No matter how small, fudging can disrupt immersion. You should only do it without the players' knowledge, if you feel it's called for. That said, there are naturally some things which call for it, and in a general sense it is not cheating. What's so bad about it is the disruption to...

D&D 5E (2014) I gave my players too much gold

Just think about giving less treasure in the future. Once the players get money, taking it away is going to be disappointing.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

You made a great point that if your players even see you fudge once all of your actions will be suspect.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

You aren't supposed to share any of the monster's stats like that. The rolls, okay, but the stats are DM-only information.

That should not be shared with the players, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Player stronghold

Player strongholds are staples of any long term campaign that makes it to high level. Look forward to some great adventure there.

D&D 5E (2014) Which Region in the Forgotten Realms and which Book?

The maps in the 2e boxed set are much prettier in my opinion. This fact and the content make it the best. The only thing is it brings some stories from the novels into it. For a pre-novel FR experience, you need to use the old gray box from 1e. As for a region other than the Sword Coast, it...
