Official DnD, D20, and OGL - who are you?

I'm with you, most of the WoTC stuff recently has not appealed to me. Most of my D&D books (well, 3E, anyway) are third party stuff. Though I am kind of picky, and read a review or five first. Early on, I got burned with a Fast Forward product, Treasure Quests. It looked so promising, but it...

How do you kick off a Campaign?

That reminds me of a time I was playing Daggerfall. I started a new character, awoke in the cave, and realized I had something like -300,000 HP. I ran into the other room, and told my friends about it, saying something to the effect of "I awoke, and I was dead." In case you were wondering, I...

Gnomes' niche in the D&D world

So, you like all the different types of gnomes? In my campaign, I just put all of them in! All the other races have different linked societies (ie, high elves and wood elves split ages ago over religious differences), but the gnomes do not. There is no one "gnome nation," nor was there ever...

    Dungeoncraft Articles

I'm so glad that I get "free" printing here. Sure, it's covered under the computer fee...but the computer fee isn't so much per student. Certainly less than what I'd pay if I had to buy my own printer/cartridges. All the other people who don't print lots of stuff subsidize my printing papers...

CONAN RPG cover and details released

Hm. I was going to say something like: "I thought one of the things you needed to put the logo on was that you be compatible with D&D 3e? Changing the magic/alignment/dexterity, etc. would make the Conan game incompatible w/3e." But according to the FAQ on Wizards site about the "d20 System...

CONAN RPG cover and details released

Well, those are movies. Great as the first one was, it butchered Conan's history, and changed some other stuff as well (I still say they should've dyed Arnie's hair black). And Mako didn't exactly practice white magic, IIRC.

CONAN RPG cover and details released

Apparently they changed the magic system, alignment rules, and how dexterity affects combat (as was mentioned above). Big no no's if you're going to use the STL, IIRC.

CONAN RPG cover and details released

Please please please let it be good... I'm a big Conan fan, and if it gets good reviews, I'll definetly fork down the cash for the chance to adventure in the Hyborian Age. :)

Book of Exalted Deeds - I don't get it...

Then go down to your local bookstore, look in the "Philosophy" section and look for books on ethics. I recommend Peter Singer (his "Practical Ethics" is very good). Or take a class on ethics, or look at a good University bookstore.

    Complete Monstrous Fighter's Compendium

I don't think that game designers are the only ones who can write "meaningful" reviews. In fact, the opposite argument can be made (I don't agree with it, however): game designers should not write reviews, because they will be biased towards their own work. I thought it was a good review- very...

    The Gaming Ideal

1.) What is the best number of players at the table, whether as a DM or player yourself? As a DM, I'd say 6 to 8 players (eight if you are really good) 2.) How often should you be able to game in an ideal world? Once a week 3.) How long should those sessions be? Depends on the players, and...

Everyone, Tell us about your games, please!

1.) How many players in your group? In the group I DM, there are 7 players. I am in three other games as a player that meet sporadically, (as does my group). 2.) Do you DM? Yes 3.) Do other people in the group DM, and how many? Four people in the group I DM run other games as well. I am...

So many games, so little time

I've got you're sympathy right here. One thing you can try to do is pretend that all the games you have are a "collection." Some games you got not just to play, but because you simply *had* to have them in the "collection." "My collection must have the Street Fighter storytelling game!"...

[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

Ok, let me see if I can make what was once a rambling, incoherent post into something more organized. Stats: 23 year old white male, gaming since age 13. I'm an atheist and tend to the liberal side of politics. Education: I am currently finishing my college education. I spent a year and a...

    Problems with Gaming Group Member

In most cases, I would agree, don't kick him out. But he sounds like a real jerk. Arriving late on purpose, and he says this? That's just incredibly rude and arrogant, and should not be tolerated. Unless he is a real boon in-game (and it doesn't sound like it) I'd give him the boot.

    Introducing D&D to someone?

Have him sit in on a session, see what it's like. It works. Just, if you're going to do this, it helps to make sure you only have your sane players around that night. :) I once tried to introduce my girlfriend to D&D, but made the mistake of running a game with one of my more annoying...

    Happy B-Day Gary Gygax!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Gygax! Thanks for helping to create my favorite game (which brings me ever so much happiness), writing so many cool adventures (I just got the reprinting of "Against the Giants," and hope to run my players through one of the classics someday), and stories (I rather liked the...
