    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

Now you're getting it. You should build a spreadsheet to factor in all the possible variables. Then you could tout your newly confirmed "proof". I'm going to go out on a limb and bet you play with a battlemat and 5' squares/hexes. Are you telling me you haven't encountered instances where your...

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

And, again, I don't see how such a concern would be a possibility given the example presented. So your point baffles me. Or is it just a non sequitur? Once more, given the situation as presented, what's the real downside here? If you end up holding the spell another round that means the giant...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

I'm sure there are plenty of players like that. Players abound who hand-wring over their spreadsheets to make sure they have the "best" whatevers. Me? I take maneuvers that make sense and enhance the feel and type of character I want to portray. And regardless of which maneuvers those happen to...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

So how useful is one of your faves, Riposte, to an archer? How often is another of your faves, Menacing, useful in an adventure where you regularly face creatures with immunity to fear? At least you put a qualifier on another of your personal faves, Commander's. I'll credit you with that...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

Now if only you could objectively determine which are which... I do like how you say all these things like they are facts, at least. I'll give you that. Your commitment to your opinions, and your confidence, aren't nothing.

D&D 5E (2014) Is WotC ever going to release something high level? Even as UA test material?

I've actually heard people say they enjoyed playing a game of F.A.T.A.L. too. Just sayin'...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

I think another huge immeasurable is party composition. I could see lunging attack being useful. If you are in a group that has a couple tank-style warrior types in front of you who like to plug up, or bottleneck, choke points. With you behind them getting a few stabs in when it really counts...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Fighter Battlemaster Maneuvers

If a DM finds there are maneuvers that don't seem to come up or have value, maybe that says something about the kind of game they prefer run rather than the maneuvers themselves? And so what one table sees as a worthless maneuver, another table might find endless value in. Which is another way...

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

I don't see how healing can really be seen as "wasted". I mean, maybe? Again, a corner case. I guess if the cleric healed the rogue, despite the giant never landing another hit before being defeated, and the group was able to immediately get in at least a short rest to recover hit points without...

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

Exactly. Corner case. Not of much value in the context of this discussion, IMO. And yet, every particular option can be seen to have has a down side. So maybe the only way to win is not to play the game?

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

What kind of corner case are you straining to meet here? I don't get your point. Are you just being contrarian for its own sake? Why would the fire giant not attack? Has he not been doing so in this theoretical example that's been brewed up? In fact, isn't the whole point of your exercise that...

D&D 5E (2014) Resting and the frikkin' Elephant in the Room

True. That sure makes high level hex and hunter's mark super cool. And what about gentle repose? It's normal duration is 10 days! Or geas, which is normally a month!? What about 8 hour long spells, like mage armor or foresight? Also, there are a handful of spells that you need to cast every...

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

In which case you'd usually be better off ready-ing your heal for after the giant's attack(s). Otherwise, we call that, "Throwing good hitpoints after bad."

D&D 5E (2014) Resting and the frikkin' Elephant in the Room

A minor disconnect I have with the 1-week LR is the in-game reality that certain spells/abilities can only be accessed a single time across an entire week+. It takes a different game world paradigm than the one I'm used to, I guess. Which throws me off a bit. For example, a 17th-level cleric...

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

Not only that, but if that (let's say fire) giant hits the newly re-awakened hero, the bulk of the damage dealt would be wasted. Look at all the "damage" not taken by the party because someone only took 6-8 points, instead of 28! That's an effective savings on healing later. If the downed PC had...

D&D 5E (2014) Resting and the frikkin' Elephant in the Room

To me, that variant rest option lends itself to a different kind of story than what some people be used to, or sometimes even comfortable with. A much more episodic or anthology driven campaign. Less day-to-day-in-the-life, which IMX a lot of home campaigns tend to focus on. Both are fun ways to...

Unearthed Arcana June Unearthed Arcana: Druid Shepherd, Fighter Cavalier, and Paladin of Conquest

If you take the paragraph you quoted, in the way I think it was really intended, you'll see the gist of it was really just a delivery system for yet another "very subtle" dig at 5e and its developers.

D&D 5E (2014) Bouncing heroes and healing tweaks

I've recently been considering a possible new houserule on this very same front: When you make a ranged attack or cast a spell, while an enemy is withing melee range of you, that enemy gets to choose between forcing you to make your roll at disadvantage as normal--or--they can instead choose to...

Unearthed Arcana June Unearthed Arcana: Druid Shepherd, Fighter Cavalier, and Paladin of Conquest

This is why I'm a big fan of how 5e handles surprise. It has some subtle nuances just under the surface that distinguish it from the way the last few editions did it. I think its actually kinda elegant.
