So what's the next book to be released in the "Complete" series?

Complete Nonesense should arrive by January. It features many classes that "cross boundaries" like arcane casters who can only do psionics, Clerics who can't heal but can toss fireballs all day, Barbarians who are mild and even tempered, Monks who wear armor and use pole arms, Fighter...

Corebooks in June!: News from the Alliance Retailer Summit

Good thing I didn't start playing until 81 then. :p Does anyone remember how 2E was released? I am neutral on the release dates since I will probably be evaluating and reading reviews until October / November anyway.

What format do you prefer for the gaming material you use?

I am going to join the "Both" train as well. In the past I was 100% print (recent past as well as ancient); but I am slowly being turned to the dark side of PDF preference, especially when PDF's are cheaper. If the PDF costs as much as the book (looking at you WotC) then I am more inclined to...

    Alignment and Party Dynamics

I could not disagree with you more on that statement unqualified. It has been my experience that players must come to some basic agreements from the start or else you end up with total chaos that no one enjoys... even though they may be playing the character they want to play. I can't imagine...

    Gleemax Alpha is Live

"I'm sorry Dave, I cannot do that." - HAL 9000 Sorry, I couldn't resist. It is this ongoing lack of web sophistication that makes me really doubt the validity of the DI.

DM Tip Jar -- is that going too far?

In answer to your question, No I would not be offended but I also would not put anything in. Now if there was a weekly fee, like $5, to play in the game used to cover costs of things like GM provided minis, battle mats, additional source books or adventures, then I would gladly pay it (and have...

    Gleemax Alpha is Live

At least the colors are not quite as pukingly ugly as they used to be, but still unpleasant.

Actual age of the 4th edition player base

    1) 35 2) 15+ This was actually stated as a design concept way back in an early comment from GenCon, I will try to find the quote again and repost it. 3) college friends in 1981

Stupid questions, but please answer anyway.

Being a relative newcomer to the site, I wanted to learn as much about it as possible before jumping in too deep and asking too many stupid questions, but I cannot for the life of me find something like a site history or what has gone before to catch up to avoid that issue. I have managed to...

Different player types hogging the spotlight?

I had a similar problem in my group when they first started. Of the 5 regulars, 3 had played before and 2 of them were definite hack first talk later types. They tended to dominate the others and essentially coerced them into following suit. This was a real problem for me since I am not a...

Nature of a Dead Island (looking for pseudo-science)..

In effect, it is not that you have an area of no magic but rather you have a very powerful area of negated magic, and negated weather (probably from the same actual magic that is powering the negates magic field), and almost a time stop field (ditto). No wind or weather and no "life" even in...

D&D 4E Is liking 4E biased by how many books you own?

I have 60+ WotC books and over 200 issues of Dragon, rounded out with another 2 dozen or so other things. My initial reaction was negative towards 4E, but with time and the snippets of information being released I have become a firm fence sitter. My issue is not the amount of money I have in...

    Gaming and Jury Duty Discrimination?

Hmmm, since I am from a huge law enforcement family, and an engineer, and a D&D player can I just get my permanent "Get out of Jury Duty" card now please? I do know there is a great deal of psychology used in picking jurors, both sides want a group that is predisposed to think their way, so...

The last sentence spoils the fun

I think this results from the players buying the "special" edition players handbook that *does not have* the last sentence to any spells. That must be it, because it does seem to be a universal thing that covers all schools and domains of spells. One game session I just decided to turn the...

If we all rolled the normal way for stats, how come he has three 18's?

As a GM, I do not always watch my players roll their stats, but I do make them all role together at the same table at the same time. I trust them enough not to stare over their shoulder, but unlimited trust breeds unlimited problems. This way if they are going to cheat they have to at least...

level up in the first adventure

Personally I would tend to fudge (as DM) more on the survivability than the XP. Yes the 1st lvl wizard with 4 hp has a tough time, but does the 2nd lvl wizard with 5 hp really have it any better? Or the 3rd with 7 hp? Maybe they miraculously find 3 CLW potions instead of 1 in that treasure...

    Is it still D&D?

Yes and no, its not a nostalgia thing. In short it was leaving AD&D in the late 80's and then being re-introduced to D&D 3 in 2000 and quickly realizing "this is not the same game" except in name. That was not even a bad thing, it was just a speed bump in the road.

CRs/ELs -- apparently the designers don't read the rules they talk about (old thread)

When they can't even get *that* right as the OP pointed out, I think it casts doubts on everything thereafter.

CRs/ELs -- apparently the designers don't read the rules they talk about (old thread)

I have found I almost cannot read the blogs or other personal reports of the designers and testers because I keep thinking to myself after reading about all their issues "This is the lamest group of DM's and players I have ever seen." Not saying anything about 4E here, just about the ability of...

Must you have and use every book for D&D

Short answer: NO Not so short answer: I have managed to acquire a great many books, but I use few of them.
