What other games do you play?

Have played: AD&D (1E) EarthDawn D&D 3/3.5 Spycraft (1E I guess, the original) Looking at: Arcane Evolved C&C 4E OSRIC and a number of the usual suspects often named above.

    Your Ultimate Homebrew

I have to agree completely with the above, but in the spirit of the OP I will say: Intertwined plot lines.

    Is it still D&D?

So, were you one the dozen or so people who actually liked "NEW Coke"? :) After all, it had the same name on the package so it must have been the same thing, right? Not trying to pick a fight here, but can you elaborate more on your point #2, because as I read it as is, you seem to be...

    DM Screen

I have the Dragon mag screen and a cardboard box that I cut down to use as a secluded place for minis and as an excellent echo chamber for dice rolling. I never get tired of that look of abject horror on my players faces when a dozen or so damage dice go thundering around the inside of big...

    Is it still D&D?

This is sort of what I was thinking, just expressed better. A rose by any other name is still a rose, but calling a carnation a rose just because you own the name "rose" is just kind of silly. 4E is a carnation, a very nice and lovely carnation, and one that many people (possibly including...

    Campaign Settings: metaplot or frozen?

Exactly. I would restrict it even further that new products detail new, never before mentioned political and power groups. If the original setting mentions there is a group known as the "Wandering minstrels" and then 2 years later an expansion decides to detail that group it could very easily...

    Is it still D&D?

I agree, even if I didn't make that clear in the first post. I loved playing AD&D back in the day, and once I got used to it I loved playing 3/3.5. Much of what I am reading about 4E sounds very interesting, IMHO it even sounds closer to AD&D in some ways. More role play, less roll play...

    Is it still D&D?

OK, I am not trying to start a big bruhaha here, just postulating. I started playing AD&D in 1981. I played for years, then took a break and played other stuff during the 2E decade. Not out of disdain or anything, just somehow got sidetracked and didn't make it back until *tada* 3E came out...

Okay, D&D 3.5 grognards . . . are you *glad* your game is out of print?

In answer to the OP, yes and no. Yes it is a relief that the 3/3.5 press juggernaut that greatly outpaced my wallet's capacity will finally slow down. Yes in that the price of what I don't have will now go down and make it easier to afford (although possibly harder to find). Yes in that now I...

MERGED: How do you say the site name? / What's with Eeee Ennn World?

Back in the days of dialup BBS' the "system operator" was abreviated as sysop. It used to really drive me nuts when people called that the "psi-sop" instead of "sis-op". As someone else said fingernails on the chalkboard. My experience was in reverse, I kept hearing about "N World", but could...

MERGED: How do you say the site name? / What's with Eeee Ennn World?

I believe this is spill over from here: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=207860 Specifically post 11, I think Morrus is trying to make his point abundantly clear.

    What Interests You Non-Upgraders

I would just arrange these in a different order of preference is all: Adventures. Monsters. Organizations then add Locations maybe Campaign Settings but only if they have all the stuff above to come along with them.

    Handling a large group?

I like this! I have used player cards and rolled for them for secret doors, traps and such but this does seem like a better method. Consider it officially "borrowed"!

    Handling a large group?

Some of this may be repeats from other posts. While running the RTTTOEE campaign my group grew to 16. I really did not want 16 players, but also did not want to tell anybody to go away, so I did a few things to handle the group. 1) I brought in a coDM to handle combat. 2) PC's had 30 seconds...

What do you think of dying at level 1?

Not acting as a team has already been covered, but I also see 2 other areas of concern; just as they were for my group many years ago. 1) Player knowledge and character knowledge seperation, or in this case not enough cooperation. This is the first quote and response. 2) Player and character...

This "resting at 9:05 AM" business

I always come back to the proverbial answer "It depends." My DM style is harsh, I challenge my players to manage resources and if they tried camping after 2 encounters I guarantee they would not get much rest. If they leave and come back those empty rooms they cleared are full again, probably...

    Getting all of 3.5 WOTC

I have found many practically brand new books for under $10 on Ebay. I have more than I will ever need and about 60% of what is available. If I can get the rest (now or after 4E release) for the same low price then eventually I may have the complete set as well. However, even at low prices...

GAHH!! Time to take a break from 3.5

Steel_Wind, BRAVO! Thanks for putting my thoughts into words. Although I did go a different direction than you, I had the same experience. I house ruled the daylights out of the abundant magic, death is an inconvenience, and I need a bigger bag of holding for all my treasure style of 3E (3.5...

New ways to generate ability scores.

For a home brew race of mine we do 4 rolls just as boring as ever, but for INT we do 3d8 and for STR we do 3d4. While this has the potential of 3-24, no one has ever rolled over 20. Also despite this supposed advantage, the d4 rolls equal or surpass the d8 rolls a good percentage of the time...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

I voted absolutely not, but that is probably wrong. When 4E stuff gets really cheap on ebay (under $10 each) I will probably buy it then. Until then I will use the 60+ 3/3.5 books I already have and continue to refine my own campaign setting and be just fine, thank you very much. As a poster...
