    Called shots

I've just simplified it a bit. arm/leg/torso/neck/head seems fair enough. I just add -2 penalties similar to the specific injury part in the DMG. As far as a max damage mechanic goes it's no worse than a power attack. It's only noticeable when you're using big weapons like a greatsword or...

    Called shots

The system I've used doesn't do one hit kills, THAT I don't believe in. All it would do if the hit is made with an extra -8 to hit is: Max damage (no die roll needed) and IF the hit is successful within the weapons critical threat range, there's just no reroll to see if it's critical. In...

    Called shots

What I've implemented for my d20 and called shots isn't too nasty essentially any "critical" called shot (neck for instance) is at -8 to hit. On a successful hit is only max damage. If the hit scores in the critical threat range, no reroll is needed as with a usual critical. It seems to...

    Called shots

To this date (since my 3e material is limited) I've always handled called shots similar to the 2e style mixed with a bit of homebrew. Essentially non leathal shots (arms legs and such) the attack is at -4 while certain more fatal areas (neck, heart, head...groin) were treated at -8 to hit...

D&D 2 Movie Preview at Gen Con!

I can only hope that those changes make a difference. The first movie sucked monkeyballs even though it did have it's memorable moments. My fav was the dwarf describing their women. Besides that the movie was shot for and with the mentality to cater to 10-14 year olds. Once LOTR came out I...

help, the pc's are unstoppable [Thread necromancy]

Since the group in question has many spellcasters, how about giving them a quest of sorts to while creating a magic item that would help the group out as a whole. Just make the components difficult, like say- the Horn of the Tarresque to start with. They'd have to think rather than bash to get...

    Would/Do You Wear A D&D T-shirt In Public?

Yeah! That's the shirt I have. I'ts been worn...a little too much though, now it's falling apart. My 5th edition magic shirt has fallen to the same fate. As for wearing them in public, I've really had no response at all besides the occasional quiery about it. And I live in a relativley...

DM overruling a Player's play of his character

I would say if any effect would take the control of the character out of the players hands he/she/it's essentially an NPC. That would mean the DM can have control over what happens. But at least take into account the characteristics of the character: Under Fear a Barbarian may make a...

Do you reequire your players to think?

I like making my players think. It keeps them on their toes. It doesn't always have to be puzzles and such, but put them in situations where bashing their way out is not the wisest of options. My favourite was starting 9 first level players and having them stroll into a village that's...

    DarkSun / Sandstorm; viable?

Dragon magazine #315 covers many out-of-print worlds in 3-3.5 edition. There's a article on Dark sun there that gives the latest edition stats for the Defiler class. You might find that interesting.

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

Hey it was a suggestion. Anyways I'm sure you could get quite detailed on how they would function if you nitpicked all the traits that you are aware that the lightsaber has. A friend of mine tried that once (back in second edition) but he considered that they should bypass armor and be...

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

Good point. It's not that I'm saying that strength isn't involved, but when it comes to hitting flesh, there'd not be much resistance. If the opponent is wearing metal armor, one way you could do it is factor you strength bonus on the to hit and apply the dex bonus to damage. Who knows...

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

You've never played Badmonton have you??? You can bench press 350 and still hit the bird like a pussy. On the other hand a 90 pound chineese guy can hit that thing so hard you don't know what hits you until you find yourself on the floor with a welt on your forhead. It's all in your wrist...

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

I can see why the Str bonus wouldn't apply. Since it can cut through anything (almost) like butter it doesn't matter how hard you swing but how fast. In this case I would apply the dexterity bonus instead.

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

:D Thanks for the info. That covers some basics for me. The rest I assume is just common sense and knowledge of the stories. i.e: Battle cruiser vs. cog. no rolling needed there. Although I'm a little hazy on multifire. Besides the obvious, how would you implement that into a combat round?

    Spelljammer Meets Star wars

:uhoh: I'm on the hunt for certain statistics from the d20 star wars system. The shops availabe here don't have anything that I can get (except the old d6 versions) and the internet is pretty vague at best. :\ Is there anyone here that has any statistical info such as Lightsabres, Blasters...

Greyhawk and Faerun on the same planet?

I guess while it is possible to mash both worlds together. Using Spelljammer to link them adds to the feel of exploration in the game and I find makes things more fun. :] Plus you can make them Crash on Dark Sun on the way there...If you like to watch your PC's squirm for a bit.

    d&d EDUCATION

Well right now it's pretty basic. Since I'm trying it at a 3rd to 4th grade level I don't have to get overly complicated. -The player gets to Keep a journal about his daily (or weekly) activities. This helps with writing and sentence structure, and of course it's a "magic Journal" so...

    d&d EDUCATION

I'm currently using D&D as an educational tool for an 8 year old. It's pretty much run as any game would be, except any puzzles and traps are there to augment reading/writing and problem solving skills. Not to mention math, but that's a given. I'm curious to know if anyone here has also used...
