D&D 5E (2014) Proficiencies don't make the class. Do they?

This is kind of a weird discussion. I'm sure in the game world, wizards would furiously debate amongst themselves whether an Artificer was a true wizard and whether to let them in the wizards club etc etc. The same debates emerge in the real world when a new variation of a profession appears...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Problem With Gish 2.0

If you post in the charop forums and nobody reads it, does the post exist? Hmmm I like the bladelock. Simpler is better I reckon. I like the idea of the pallysorc and Knightabjurer, but wondering how they would play out at the table.

    D&D 5E (2014) Grind-out fights, unconscious heroes, and retreat

I think a little dose of reality is good for players from time to time. Pen & Paper is good for exactly the reason that the story can develop in context, e.g. if it seems appropriate that every guard in the castle is alerted because you launched a frontal attack so be it. They can always get...

    D&D 5E (2014) Grind-out fights, unconscious heroes, and retreat

Yeah, I know players are super bloodthirsty. I was overlaying the real world, since your monsters seem to be acting in realistic ways. You can communicate a heck of a lot of information to the PCs by having a monster meaningfully stand over the unconscious PC with a weapon, and not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Grind-out fights, unconscious heroes, and retreat

Yeah, but let's face it, players are really the true monsters. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Grind-out fights, unconscious heroes, and retreat

Our group has discovered that running away is fun too! We've been routed once (in a foolish fight against a black dragon) and tactically retreated once (in a foolish frontal attack against a gnoll tribe). It's fun because it feels realistic and you don't feel like the rules of the metagame will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Grind-out fights, unconscious heroes, and retreat

I think intelligent monsters are actually the other way around. Unless they're zealots of chaos or completely feral, they are reluctant to kill because they want to show enough strength to drive off the invaders, but not give the invaders an incentive for revenge or back them into a corner where...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sprite familiar firing sleep-needles every round?

Basically, he's spending a bonus action for a crappy chance to remove an opponent from the battlefield. Which is probably a good choice if the monsters take 3 or more rounds to take out or if the party is out of resources, but not if the monsters are super squishy.

D&D 5E (2014) Can a wood elf hide in dim light?

I would rule not. The ability is intended for wood elves to be able to hide in light woods and natural settings. I would add mist, rain, dust/sand in there but I would not add ambient light levels. As someone else said, thematically, hiding in shadows is the ability of a different race.

D&D 5E (2014) Does the "Friends" cantrip need a fix?

I think this is a badly designed cantrip. Its extremely situational as written and the drawback is significant enough that no one would pick it up over another cantrip. They should've just made it a 'Guidance' type cantrip but for charisma checks.

The 'Wonderland'-Inspired Faces of the RAGE OF DEMONS

You'd expect Demogorgon and Pazuzu to make an appearance surely. How about Lloth? Or she on everyones shitlist?

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts Regarding the Number of Attuned Items

Its about fashion balance too. Sure you can wear 3 cloaks, but should you? Does a circlet of blasting and a crown of brilliance really look that good paired together? I say, no.

Hasbro CEO: "D&D is Really on a Tear"

Knowledge transferred, thank you Blackbird. So what does "living on a tear" mean? ;-)

    D&D 5E (2014) Rules a character "pass a Weapon" to another

I used to play in a game (not a dnd game) where a evil player had a particle accelerator that used peasants as ammunition. Eventually he became an NPC and sometime ally, but boy was he evil. So evil he had tamed a shoggoth that look like a house. Fun times.

Hasbro CEO: "D&D is Really on a Tear"

Right, gotcha! Like, "we're tearing the competition a new a hole!" Or is it more mild than that?

What does "on a tear" mean? Aren't tears bad?

D&D 5E (2014) Perfect example of the kind of interaction that I wish Wizards had with it's community.

Same. It's different if the creator of a game teases something like that and then a couple of days later, that very thing gets released. Now THAT'S cool. But anything else is just being a dick.

Mage Armor? Not so much. But Shield, Counterspell, Dispel Magic, Protection from Energy, Banishment, Symbol you might cast a few times. :)
