    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Rolls & "a typical campaign"

No one said that adventuring (as far as groups of 4+ people heading out to kill and loot) was the basis for the general D&D economy, in fact that's rather a silly notion. The reason (in theory) ancient idols, art work, and gems can be so easily liquidated is because there's a demand for such...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure Rolls & "a typical campaign"

While I appreciate the concept, an Adventurer (in my eyes) tends to live a more nomadic life. Sure there are expenses - room and meals at the inn, taking care of your horse, buying new clothes. Why would we assume the characters have any life other than killing dragons and moving from town to...

D&D 5E (2014) Gaming session lessons: why moving slow is important all the time, and the kid learns kiting

I think it's nice that the PCs weren't living in a constant state of fear, even if they should have been. I wish I could go back to those days when establishing walking order was more about who your character was going to give a flat-tire to than it was about defending against possible...

D&D 5E (2014) Does "Unarmoured Defense" work with Druids who are shapechanged?

Ah, indeed, Wisdom (and other non-physical stats) carry over into wild shape, the others don't.

D&D 5E (2014) Can thrown weapons be used for sneak attack damage?

After making two edits on my post, then walking away, I realized that I had read something that went in the face of my own final conclusion. I think you're right. The 'Range' entry under Weapon Properties (pg 147 PHB) notes that the ranged property applies to any weapon (extrapolated to mean...

D&D 5E (2014) Can thrown weapons be used for sneak attack damage?

A ranged weapon uses dexterity as a base stat, where thrown assumes strength. There are exceptions, for example the dagger and the dart which are both finesse weapons. There's that, as well as the feats, class abilities, and other rules that draw a distinct difference between ranged and thrown...

D&D 5E (2014) Does "Unarmoured Defense" work with Druids who are shapechanged?

Why disallow one but not the other? Barbarian allows shield use (applicable when not in animal form), and while a cursory glance at the various beasts shows that con+dex is as common as wis+dex in giving a 13ish AC, I suspect that con+dex might give a slight advantage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Low magic player characters in D&D 5e

I'm currently in a group trying to get a Hyborian Age (Conan) game started using 5e. Very low magic item, and magic use is pretty stylized. I personally wouldn't have picked 5e. The DM has nixed paladins, clerics, and druids (I think druids should have stayed), as well as well as warlocks...

D&D 5E (2014) Can thrown weapons be used for sneak attack damage?

I'm really not seeing a light hammer or even a javelin as being used to 'strike subtly'. The dagger, as a finesse weapon, can be thrown and used for sneak attack without question. Is it a matter of flavor or is it a matter of trying to get the extra damage? If it's flavor based, 'reshape' the...

D&D 5E (2014) Question: Am I treating this situation correctly?

You make some valid points, but I'm not convinced. It seems to me that allowing 5 weapons that are thrown is a bigger mistake than omitting the 2 that are simply ranged. When you add that to the fact the the bullet point descriptions under Martial Arts are even less specific in wording that...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Missing from 5E?

I can't count the number of times the party has defeated the enemy, leaving one alive for questioning. Whether tortured or not for information doesn't matter, but it always comes down to what are you going to do with him when you're done? You can't let him go, even the LG party members are...

D&D 5E (2014) How might you fix the beastmaster's animal companion?

Just off the top of my head, I'd suggest maybe a perk where the beast doesn't grant a creature its fighting any cover so unengaged ranger can fire his bow at (starting 5th level) that creature and make the synergy of working with the beast a little more worth it. Maybe beastmaster should...

    D&D 5E (2014) XP per Session !!???

Bonus XP for killing off party members!! "Dude, I'm really sorry you were hit by my scorching ray. And to think we almost won the battle without losing anyone."

D&D 5E (2014) can you use warcaster feat to cure?

The feat specifies a 'hostile creature'. The rules for AoO also specify that the creature must be hostile to trigger an AoO.

D&D 5E (2014) can you use warcaster feat to cure?

Yes, however, the feat specifies that the target of the spell needs to be the enemy who triggered it, so I would not recommend casting those sorts of spells.

D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on the Realms

I always joke that when you play in Forgotten Realms you always end up in Neverwinter, where characters from books take government jobs. I tend to dislike playing in settings that have a lot of lore attached, because if you're not as familiar, a lot of stuff can go over your head. And with...

D&D 5E (2014) Question: Am I treating this situation correctly?

Sometimes, However, IT happens. In the heat of the moment things don't always go they way we'd like, as a player or a DM. I've been in fit mode before (usually because the rules explicitly say my character can do something, but the DM doesn't like it so says I can't), though I've learned to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attacking a Creature Engulfing A PC (or in a Grapple, I suppose)

Perhaps a less perfect suggestion would be to maybe apply some cover bonuses to the creature. If we're talking a full enveloping, then yeah there's logically a chance of hitting your friend, especially with piercing damage, where bludgeoning and slashing might be little more than blows glancing...
