D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

I'd like to see varying quality of a bag of holding.

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

Which is why hyper-focus doesn't work out in practice unless the party is huge and then the game is easy anyway.

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

The thing with D&D is that optimal characters can handle many different types of challenges. People hyper-focusing their character for "optimization" are accomplishing the opposite. What usually ends up happening in conversations is both that the DM must cater encounters to be weak against...

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

I would add to this that the DM can't possibly know what it is like to be the NPC and how they will react to these situations. Maybe the NPC is used to dealing with highly charismatic and influential people and sees right through them. The DM can have that as a note but won't have the life...

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

AL games make up a tiny amount of the player population though. Those same players are more likely to be posting on forums so it probably seems higher. I agree about the online implementation though, it will probably be more difficult to have more options there.

D&D 5E (2024) Dancing bards and true strike.

They get a bonus melee attack but their main thing is still spell casting. They are only weak if you forget about their spellcasting and try to be a brawler. Otherwise they just get really good improvements to their bardic inspiration and AC.

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

How much does a person weigh in space? For us weight is a measurement of the Earth's force of gravity pulling on us towards the Earth. Fun fact: Your weight will change depending both on how close you are to the equator and how high above sea level you are.

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Items & Crafting In The New Dungeon Master's Guide

Sounds like what they do in my favourite fantasy series 'The Wandering Inn'. Whenever an enchanted item is found they take it to an enchanter to find out its properties and how good the enchantment is. The question of making it is usually 'that knowledge is lost to us' or 'you would need a...

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Items & Crafting In The New Dungeon Master's Guide

I can see the issue with this style of play. I suppose I would invite you to see it as an opportunity to get into the perspective of someone in the world. A magic item could well be worth 500GP to one person, 1000GP to another, and 5000GP to yet another. In the end they're all...

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

I also thought it was pretty clear they were being cheeky so I responded in kind.

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

I could see something that is the equivalent to a quiver of holding but I don't think they would make it endless because of the shenanigans that would ensue.

D&D 5E (2024) Poll) Will the DMG2024 have Infinite Quivers?

I think, technically speaking, nothing can have infinite weight because weight depends on the force of gravity on the object and at some point it becomes the centre of the force of gravity and then weighs nothing.

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

It took, I think, 6 months for my 3e players to stop saying they are making rolls when we switched to 5e. I put it this way to them: Just say what you are doing and most of the time you will succeed without even making a roll. If you roll all the time then you're just going to fail more. I've...

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

Yeah, for me it wasn't mimicking the voice, it was the feat implying that the NPC automatically gets a chance to tell. There should be a good reason for the NPC to be making the check. Same applies to Kenku.

D&D General Why the Great Thief Debate Will Always Be With Us

The chassis of 5e is in a good place for me. No rolls unless the outcome is in doubt, there is a consequence for failure, and it is interesting. For me, I think of 3e when thinking of rules going too far. I'm not sure about 2024 yet. Certainly there is an expansion of character creation and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard subclasses are a missed opportunity.

I'm pretty satisfied with what is core. Blade singer would need to be reimagined as it is too powerful and dance bard fills the archetype well. War mage is uninteresting to me. It has similar issues to fighter subclasses not having flavour. Order of scribes is an interesting thought but I...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

I believe in 2014 an "attack" was defined by being an attack roll but now it is not as clear Though under "attack" it still says make an attack roll with a weapon or unarmed strike. Then under unarmed strike it gives 3 options and 2 aren't attack rolls so yeah could be more clear. The main...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

You don't make an attack roll if you grapple or shove. The opponent just makes the save.
