D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Yeah, Dwarves are good. Lucky is quite good. Naturally stealthy is either a complete miss or quite situational. Nimbleness is not as good as it seems when you see how many push effects there are in 2024. Brave is fine but I think you're over rating it. I think my least favourite species are...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Musician or no, 1/long rest is so few as to barely be noticeable. The thing with humans in 2024 is that they are fine for all classes but also don't stand out. Which is a good place for them to be. The problem with rating them is defining what you are rating them for. If players had to take...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Tiefkings are quite a bit stronger than you rate. Poison is the most common damage type with fire not far behind. I bet we are going to see a lot more necrotic with the new MM. Poison spray is good now. The spells in general are mostly good. Abyssal > infernal > Cthonic probably. At first...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Yeah, I would rate them a 0. If I were to choose a species based on the strength of their abilities then I would not consider natural weapons at all.

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

I appreciate the work put into this. I quite enjoy exercises like these. That said, I think you should play the game for a bit (or maybe a bit more). The human heroic inspiration is rated 3 for example but musician is likely in the party and will be providing many more points. It is not as...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

While there are elements that increase complexity, there are also quite a lot of simplifications too. The monk used to need to take the attack action to make an unarmed attack as a bonus action. In order to use flurry of blows they needed to do so immediately after the attack action. Now they...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

I disagree with you here. Quickened spell can be used with other magic items that augment spells. It still has the stipulation of only being able to cast 1 level 1+ spell that turn.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

I was surprised that one was in there considering what was left out. I also dislike it. Strength isn't intimidating. There is a scene in Looper where the protagonist is threatened with a gun but he isn't scared. He explains that he recognizes the gun would hurt him he just doesn't believe the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

I think the difference will be that some items will help you to cast a spell and others will instruct you to do something with the item which then causes the spell (or spell-like effect) to occur. One thing to note is that the explanations for things and advice has been stripped from the PHB...

Necklace of Fireballs (or Beads of Force etc.) are good examples of taking the magic action to throw an object and then it causes a spell to.happen. Which is entirely different than casting a spell and involving a magic item.

But what if they do know the spell? Does it no longer work with fast hands?

Maybe if the wand had limited charges that would make it qualify under this interpretation?

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

You do not use the utilize action and you don't with a spell scroll either. It is a magic item that requires you to cast a spell with the magic action to use. It is the exact same thing. I can't imagine that the designers want fast hands to enable vicious mockery to be cast faster. It makes...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

Yes so this also applies to the wand of the war mage. As long as a magic action is required while using a magic item it qualifies is what you are saying.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

Where does it say 'use a magic action'? It says cast a spell and it provides benefits to casting that spell. Casting a spell is 1 of 3 types of magic actions. Using a magic item is a separate type of magic action. You seem to be stuck on the theme of the spell scroll being different because...

How do you use the wand without a magic action?

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

You cannot use the wand without a magic action, it is an item that requires you to use a magic action. The only difference is that the scroll disintegrates after use, while the wand does not. Fast Hands makes no mention of the magic item needing to disintegrate. If you use a spell scroll to...
