2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

Yes, won't someone please think of the men.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

Seems to be that having male hags has prompted this discussion. Why do male hags make you and others uncomfortable? Maybe it is seen as a threat? You thought of women as gross and evil well now we will treat men that way. Seems to me the most terrifying thing one can do to a man is to treat...

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

Speaking as a woman who has expertise in gender transgression I can verify that their existence is a statement on patriarchy and engaging in the inherent gender transgression.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

How long does it take for something to become folklore? This is developing organically from folks. We want male hags so we are creating stories with them. Observing traditions and retelling tales is important but so it building on those tales and incorporating our current understanding and...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I think using existing monsters as starting points and examples will result in more accurate and easier monster building than 4 pages of instructions. A worthwhile guide to me is ~20 pages and it is easy to mess it up too.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Yeah. If you are going to do something, do it right. The consequence of that is choosing to not do it at all if you don't have the resources to do it right.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

They are a core species in my favourite fantasy series, The Wandering Inn. There are many regular characters and it spends a lot of time talking about their way of life and culture. Not to give anything away but there is even another species of evil gnolls too who are their enemy.

The point is that we are making new folklore.

D&D 5E (2024) 2025 Monster Manual All You Need to Know video link is up.

There are many hundreds of monsters DMs can use as templates for new designs. Not putting math in the books isn't stopping people from making their own.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

I would just love if they changed things so that half-elf was the playable species and elves were beings of magic that disappeared long ago from the realms. But they can't and they won't. I will just do that for my home games.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

If we assume that the size of the book can't be bigger then pages devoted to that would mean fewer monsters. I didn't use the pages from the 2014 DMG and I wouldn't use them now so I'm happy they're not in it. It is far easier for me to take in all the monsters and then use those for...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I don't think there can be better custom monster rules than just picking a monster to use a template and then altering it. It is a lot faster too than trying to create one from scratch.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic healing of inborn conditions

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that magic knows what is an impairment and what is just part of who the person is. If I could have just waved a magic wand to physically transition, better believe I would have, and would like to think that magic would let me do so in a fantasy world. Magic...

D&D General Homebrewing question about Giants and rock-throwing

I'm not entirely sure I follow your post but sounds like you've written a story that you're going to tell to your players instead of playing a game.

D&D 5E (2014) What Level is the Party after 56 Sessions?

I don't think the DMG specifies per session like that. What if a session is 1 hour? Or 8? I expect 1 long rest every 2 (3 hour) sessions in my games.

D&D 5E (2014) What Level is the Party after 56 Sessions?

If I did my math right level 17 would be a consistent pace. 1 session each for 1 and 2. 2 per for 3 and 4. 4 per for 5-10. 3 per for 11-16. That brings us to 17. I would then go to 2 per for the remaining levels. It is easy to speed it up or slow it down. Using the XP tables this is about the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stripping 5e to its core

I've thought about doing this by adopting The Wandering Inn class and levelling system. There would be no rules for specific classes. Instead, when gaining levels the player and the DM come up with abilities that are thematically appropriate to what the character has been doing. Characters...

D&D General Seeking Input: A moment of prayer for the Ranger

This is a good example of multiclassing limiting design. It would be bad for them to have more saving throw proficiencies because of the ability to multiclass to get them which is probably partly why they didn't have them to start with. I could get behind added saving throws as they level. I...
