The Archivist;- from where else can he/she learn new spells?

Excellent advice, thanks to everyone that replied. I absolutely agree that having alternate sources for learning divine spells than from scrolls is an excellent hook and device, and I've been planning to use some (and I'll likely suplement my initial ideas with whats been posted here :D). Upon...

The Archivist;- from where else can he/she learn new spells?

The archivist looks like an awesome concept, but I'd be interested to know from where they can gain their new spells? This is included in the mechanics section, though in reality this seems to translate as "from scrolls", because there doesn't seem to be any other RAW source of divine spells...

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

In fact, I suppose RAW (if a little metagamey), you could interview potential cohorts by submitting them to fixed attribute tests such as arm wrestles. You can calibrate against a character of known strength because with these tests higher ability scores automatically win without roles :D

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

Fantastic! Thanks heaps! I think that's the way it often goes! I find lots of situations like this where I'm sure (or kinda sure) I've read the guidelines for this or that before, but finding where can be tricky because sometimes the rules that you are need are recorded in disparate sources...

    Dungeons and Dragons tattoo: ideas?

I read this literally and responded as I thought :)

    Lets create a Woodwraith

Looking for some suggestions and ideas about a creature I'm tinkering with. What I'm trying to do is create a monster for the concept I have using absolute rules as written, if it can be done. Concept; Woodwraiths are something like a conglomerate skeleton in which rather than just bone, any...

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

Might come across as kinda schizophrenic if I do that at the table :D

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

Thanks for the help! Although its not necessary and I'm being pedantic, I was looking for a rule somewhere that stated it absolutely, hoping someone knew where it could be found. Your response makes sense though. Regarding the wealth by level, I'm sure I read somewhere that there was a...

    Long Adventures and Levelling. etc.?

I've pesonally always found this one a tricky one to rationalise;- the long adventure sequence, dungeoncrawl, or time-critical kind of mission that leaves little or no downtime for large stretches. One problem seems to be that downtime is kind of an assumption, for creating magic items, or...

    Dungeons and Dragons tattoo: ideas?

I want to second pretty much everything that Unwise has posted, I don't think I could express this any more clearly or succinctly. The one thing I will add; I'd suggest, even if it was the best tattoo ever, please think about it for at least a year, if not longer. If you can't do that, it may...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragon's-Eye View: Concepts in Art

The kobold (less the crocodile head), troglodyte and yuan ti all do a reasonably good job of keeping the feel, I think. With the Troglodyte, I wish they would keep the kind of "amphibian/skink" look that was very well conceptualised and used throughout 3rd edition, but I certainly don't dislike...

What did you come up with?

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragon's-Eye View: Concepts in Art

Awesome, I haven't seen this before. Got a good chuckle out of that! IMO only, I think this is a bit unfair. She's covered up and her "sexual attributes" are not being exaggerated or pointed out. I just found her menacing and writhing with energy.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Exploration and Interaction

Why present them in any order tho? I think DM's should be able to decide on how a monster should be played.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Exploration and Interaction

Agreed. Previous editions seem to always say; "Its your game, and you can change it if you like", immediately paraphrased with "but you will probably unbalance the game."

    Determining abilities for cohorts?

How do you determine the ability scores for cohorts? Also, with special cohorts, how do you determine starting gear/wealth?

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Basic Subclass, Can Subclasses Change the class, Non-Vancian Subclasses

So backgrounds could perhaps shoulder the load of concepts like culture, or civilization. It doesn't look like it will happen now, but breaking down the class system into a set of tools, and decoupling the culture and mechanic stuff; rangers/woods, druids and culture, barbarians and culture...

One player party. A one on one DM to PC game?

Its an interesting point about the uneven levels; I'm sort of in the same situation right now. I'm leaning towards not worrying about it too much, for a couple of reasons; for one, the underlying assumption that everything has to be mechanically perfectly even takes from my suspension of...
