What are good ways to deal with falling attacks?

Closest thing I see is from the MM dragon entry. The damage is a bit light starting at 2d8 for a huge dragon and progressing to 4d8 by colossal. The above mechanics might help for the act if not the result.

What are good ways to deal with falling attacks?

Elegant. I'd go with Jump vs. Reflex and probably cut the damage in half for both parties but that's just me. Dragon Magazine, issue #306, had rules for this kind of stuff. The article is called Power Fantasy. I've gotten quite a bit of use out of these rules and they cover lots of ground from...

D&D 3.x Worst 3.5 rule from core books?

Well Grapple is obviously problematic and I've often seen furrowed brows regarding some of its cousins like Over-running and even Bullrush. One of the most broken rules in the game is the feat Natural Spell. Since wild shapes are often combat forms and the druid has plenty of combat spells I...

    Spellbooks as scrolls

I believe that was in the 1e DMG. The specifics are hazy but I do remember the rule.

I was "booed" for even showing the 4e Core books

Yes, I encounter it everyday. And god-willing I will continue to encounter everyday until I die, or 5e comes out and I can turn my nose up at that, whichever comes first. And this weekend when I am playing my 4e wizard, Jerome Pennyweight, ineffectually buffeting wave after wave of shifty...

    Should Glitterdust counter displacement?

I'm uncomfortable with a 1st level spell negating a 3rd level spell. IMO faerie fire should reduce concealment by one step and nothing more. It's a basic spell effect not a catch-all counter. I treat glitterdust a bit harshly as well. Technically it is a disabling attack and counterspell at 2nd...

    Sandbox-style: What's your opinion?

It's always easier to scale an encounter up than down. I think in sandbox you have to decide how much of a vacuum there is regarding the encounters the party has and what is out there. If you are playing a game where a lot gets done every session then the occasional throwaway encounter isn't...

    Dashing Swordsman PrC?

This is quite good and keeps in line with the inspirational material, i.e. OotS. The only critical comment I would make is that the base attack requirement is a bit high at +6. That prevents mid-tier combatants, bards and rogues, from getting in until 9th level. Your skill rank requirements...

    Sandbox-style: What's your opinion?

I had a very strong desire to run a game set in Vvardenfell the setting of Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Since the original game was very sandboxy I figured it would be a no brainer to make my P&P version a sandbox as well. Wonderful thought but still a lot of work. I had the benefit of having a...

    Aasimar are now . . . Devas.

    Well played, sir, well played.

Please review these house rules---all input much appreciated.

That's a bit harsh, dude, and not very informed. It's obvious to me that he is trying to regain the feel of 1e style play while still using the 3e rule-set. The biggest problem with that is that 3e assumes way too much about higher level play that may not be to some people's tastes. In 1e...

    Deva or Aasimar?

What was the aasimar's first appearance? I remember the tiefling from 2e Planescape but not the aasimar. Were they added in 3e or was it some 2e supplement that I never bothered with?

    Deva or Aasimar?

Personally I don't see either one as a winner. Aasimar is clearly made up and could be anything. Deva on the other hand has actual religious and mythological basis and in all cases is a clearly higher order of being. In Hinduism they are godlings, in Buddhism powerdul spirits or kamis, and in...

    D&D 3.x What parts of 4E should I bring to 3.5?

That's some nice work overall. That solo seems pretty brutal though. x5 hp is huge. Since you've already used it and it's not just theory it must work for you but gah, 575 hp for a CR 11. Mighty indeed.

    Simplified Advancement Rule: encounter points

My method for awarding XP isn't too far removed from the usual scale but my advancement rules are a bit different. I ripped of an optional rule from Monte Cook's World of Darkness. The basic formula for awarding experience is 100 xp times the total party level per encounter. An encounter is...

Please review these house rules---all input much appreciated.

You've clearly cut the power level of the game. That's not a bad thing if you can keep your encounters balanced. Published adventures would require fairly judicious pruning and existing CRs are no longer relevant. A few comments and questions though. This seems oddly out of place. You've...

    Armour rules from Unearthed Arcana

That is essentially the way it works in d20 Conan as well. Some weapons are considered finesse-able and can ignore DR with a high enough attack roll. There is also a armor penetration stat that varies from weapon to weapon and is modified by Strength and possibly feats. The only problem I had...

    The Ultimate (A)D&D Kitbash

My apologies. I'll edit that right out. My ire lays not with your topic or 4e but rather with reactionary advocates who don't contribute to a thread but rather use it as a forum to further their own narrow views. My GOD!!! What have I become?!? ;)
