Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Definitely. We have sold a LOT of Kalamar product the last seven years. Nobody complaining here. And we've built a respectiable customer base. While it would be nice if everyone appreciated our efforts the line has done well by us. So it's all good.

Already out. (about a month now). It's real 'iffy' at this point if we'll still have copies at GenCon. We seriously underestimated demand for it. The book is moving fast and we're at the point a reprint is order. I can tell you for sure a few days before GenCon if we'll have copies at the...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Questions for our in-house legal dude I'm afraid. Our policy has always been to sell through printed inventory before offering a pdf version. When the license expires we'll probably be looking at going over our KOK product line and deciding what we can offer as pdfs. The beauty of pdfs of...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

KenzerCo owns Hackmaster and all original material/rules presented in it. What we don't own is any original/hacked material taken from AD&D. Can't really say more on the subject I'm afraid.

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

HM books based on AD&D material were (and are) prohibited in electronic form. However those books based original material can (and have) been posted as pdfs if they're OOP. As far as the rest of our HM inventory/books we have a sell-off period. So they'll be available still for a few months...

Hmmm.... Note to self. (scribble scribble). ;)

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Ummm.... hello? Was never our job. We were simply a production/shipping partner. If you read the original press release I think that's clear. Marketing didn't figure into it. Hell -- we can't even market our own stuff. ;)

I hear ya. My gaming library is filled with books I don't really use for play. But i keep them handy because they make great references. I'm looking at a set of Last Unicorn's ARIA as I write this. Never played it. Not even sure what it's all about. But they make great reference works. ;)

lol. Point taken. But I'm not sure how much confusion there really is. Just questions on HM/kalamar's future. Again -- my only interest in posting was to say it was expected and that WoTc didn't yank the carpet. (i.e. no bad guys here). I don't think it's unsual to regret the end of a...

I hear ya. Which is why I wanted to clear things up. WotC may be tightening control but in our case they certainly didn't come gunning for us.

The typical issue of KODT has around 10% Hacmaster content (no accident). Out of 80 pages 6 to 12 are usually d20 related. The rest generic or comprised of regular features. I don't see too much changing since we'll continue to support Hackmaster. Although the pendulum tends to swing. Sometimes...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Actually it was quite valuable. We sold a lot of KOK books with it. But with time -- people expected it to be there. (i.e. they saw the KOK logo and assumed it was a D&D product). So when we dropped the D&D logo and nobody noticed -- well, we took that to be a good thing I guess. But I think...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

We knew 7 years ago the exact date the license would end. There may have been provisions for renewing. I'm not sure. We knew going in that we would eventually want to wean ourselves from the license. I'm guessing (in light of recent events) WotC would have said no if we had tried to renew. I...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

And to be honest we stopped running the D&D logo a few years ago. First as a test to see if had any impact on sales (which it didn't) and secondly to build KOK brand recognition and wean it away from the D&D logo (since we knew the license would eventually end). So in terms of Kalamar this...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

lol. Well -- it didn't stop us from selling LOTs of product with the D&D logo on it. We have a solid core following. That's all a game company can ask for I suppose. People vote with their wallets. So it's all good. I think it all really boils down to player tastes and style preference. So...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Not a case of WoTC yanking a license or being a bully. We've known for 7 years the license would eventually end. We didn't request a renewal. Nor did we want one to be honest. We've been planning for this moment for quite sometime and have a lot of irons in the fire. In other words we're...

    Is Origins going downhill?

Was stange not being in the shadow of one of those mega booths that are usually at Origins. We've basically had the same size booth for the last 6 years or so at Origins (An 8 table/booth endcap). We may drop down to a six table island next year. I honstely don't think anyone would notice with...

    Is Origins going downhill?

Thanks for that. Mark Plemmons is the genius behind the layout this year. He came up with some different ways of making back product available without having it spread out everywhere. Worked out nice. We genuinely had a great time. Usually at the end of a show we're crawling. But this year I...

    Is Origins going downhill?

I posted elsewhere that I thought Origins Rocked. I've been going for over 17 years. In my opinion it simply grows/contracts as the gaming industry undergoes the same changes. For me those are headaches/problems that are dealt with behind the curtain. As long as sales are strong in the...

    Origins

Just got back from Origins. It ROCKED as usual. I love both GenCon and Origins. Hard for me to choose one over the other. I like Origins because it's less intense than GenCon. Easier to find/hook up with your friends. Lots of quiet areas/corners where you can get a pick up game going. Sort of...
