D&D 4E The Business of 4ed Part I: The Problem

Can you point to a source with hard numbers on this please? The industry as defined as third party publishers is struggling yes. The industry as defined as Wizards? Appears to be doing just fine. Roleplaying now is stronger than ever. Just look at the numbers of conventions out there. It was a...

Nature of a Dead Island (looking for pseudo-science)..

All good stuff. I think it would become a destination vacation spot for undead. Seriously. (I know you're thinking a lich in a Hawaiian shirt.) The undead would come looking for this place to study it, to wander about in it, perhaps even to live, especially if there's any form of elevated or...

Will You Count "Roman Numeral" Books As Core?

Given how much testing it appears the first three books will get (i.e. not much), this may not be so much of a concern. That said, what I think you're really saying, and I agree with, is the "book creep" phenomenon. Many later products from D&D 3.5 have considerably scaled up the powers from...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder I - Burnt Offerings?

Is this in the Review database? I could not find it. If it isn't there, would someone please add it? If it is, would someone please link to it? I wrote a review. Thanks.

"Bait Monsters" and the "Trained Mindset"

That goes to what the prior poster said about selling more books. Bleah. I'm still waiting for the new system to judge, but the notion of "extra Core material" every year plus "randomized digital miniatures" + "frost giants and who knows what else postponed" does not excite me a lot. Other...

D&D 4E The Business of 4ed Part I: The Problem

Not to mention capable grognards who DM your current system will encourage sales of books to players even if they aren't new recruits. That said, WotC does need to recruit new, young players and DMs. There's no doubt that they have the largest resources, the most to lose and the most to gain.

    Gaming and Jury Duty Discrimination?

Most employers do. If your employer doesn't, you may also be entitled to ask the state or county in which you live for further funds. Consult with your lawyer. A judge explained this very well during jury selection on a trial that I was monitoring. (I'm a claims adjuster. I never get picked...

    Island concept

Dire Rat Island. Sounds like a pretty good adventure for a low to moderate level group. :D

    Monster Types

If I had my druthers, I would like to see types lose certain special abilities and make them into Special Abilities. Creatures that are immune to criticals would have a line stating that, which would have the side benefit of eliminating certainty (it's an undead - you can't crit it!) and...

    Adventure H1

That figure includes the cost of DI for two years and all the update/"core" books as well.

Game Breaker Spells - What are they?

Precisely. Or what if (metagame level now) you do this all the time? Your players will justifiably start to complain that you're targeting their prized special abilities.

    Arthnek's India Inks on Bristol

Excellent art. I particularly like the second piece and the most recently posted. There are suggestions of faces and limbs in the rocks and buildings of your art. That's very evocative.

    Open Design 4: Arabian Adventures

I'm already planning on a City of Brass/Open Design 4 adventure for ICon 2008!

Dear WotC - You suck at names.

    Welcome to Felldale, formerly Fanedale.

Say you are selected for PLAYTEST...

Yes, assuming that I could commit to it fairly and get my group to commit. I'd want to play weekly and really put the rules through their paces.

Dear WotC - You suck at names.

Wrongdale is awesome! Feywild is copyrightable. It's also just ill-chosen English. The word 'fey' has connotations of 'wild', 'spirits', 'untameable' and more. I do happen to like Shadowfell.

On taking power away from the DM

Good preparation avoids obviously fudged BBEG death. If you want your villain to last, have a list of spells cast for the BBEG's benefit and potions consumed. (A potion of sturdying from Arcana Evolved, for example, adds +30 hit points. Makes a big difference for evil wizards.) Another...

    What Makes an Encounter Exciting?

All good points. However, I think if every encounter is AWESOME and THRILLING then it quickly raises the bar and makes it harder to do so. I'm not saying don't do it. Do it. But sparingly. Even short encounters can be fun when handled right.

    Con assistance needed ASAP

Don't forget that not everyone will show. However, I'd still go with your original number, and be polite but firm. It's not incumbent upon you to adapt to a glut of players. (In the alternate, you'd be better off splitting into two groups of six and offering to run the adventure a second time...
