An Idea for an Evil Campaign

I like it, especially considering I'm about launch a campaign with a similar adventure layout if not the same principle. In my game, the PCs are going to be guerrilla fighters against impossibly evil overlords. But it will be very much about hit an runs, assassinations, and sabotage from within...

Class ideas for an Ender of Days in a high powered campaign.

In my last epic campaign, we had a character who was supposed to be the incarnation of war itself. She looked like a 14 year old girl, but she could take on the physical abilities and spell-like abilities of martial type angels and demons. She could also cast spells when not doing that, as a...

    "Feelies" with your tabletop games

Most of what I've done is more in the nature of party effects. We use various colored drinks in backlit glasses when we play D&D, and I have various themed chalices that can be used for various in game functions. We also use some effects lighting, like green or purple lights in buckets for...

What was your first RPG experience if it WASN'T D&D?

I played the original Gamma World in 1992, with AD&D following that same year.

Suggested Modules for a Spy Game that Deals With One Of the Following?

Hi. About a month ago, my group decided to lay off the high fantasy gaming. It was agreed that we'd take a few weeks, play some card games and board games, and then try some different games. In the mean time, I found two things in the same week that gave me an idea. One was an original copy of...

    PCs dealing with sexuality

Most of the D&D playing groups I've been with haven't really tackled it, mainly because of the real life makeup of the tables and the fact that D&D is usually not a platform that supports it. We have, myself included, taken the joke angle with homosexual characters before. One of my player's...

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

I've run and played in evil campaigns several times. In fact, our long running epic level campaign is focused on evil characters. Evil doesn't have to mean stupid or childish; it just has to be, well, evil. Many evil people work together for years; high ranking nazis, for instance. To answer...

I'm doing some market research ...

I think I may have just had a brain blast. Instead of trying to emulate the Sultan drawer style thing, build a popup table. Make the legs a little shorter, and the table a little thicker. Then, have the part with the grid, which would be slightly smaller then the actual size of the table, popup...

I'm doing some market research ...

I have to agree with Stormonu; the long pullouts don't work for me. Perhaps one long one between the player stations, or a drop-down/retracting platform would work?

Should a DM buy the player splats?

At my table, we buy the books we want. System/game/language doesn't matter. If you want to use it in my game, and it is one that I do not have, then it had better fit on the 36 x 24 photocopier. It shouldn't be the DM's duty to buy every book in the player's arsenal. The players, though, have...

The Future of Computers in D&D

In the whole, I think the trend of convergence will continue. I don't think we'll see players replace, or the hobby turned into a computer game with literally thousands of manuals. I think we'll see digital libraries become more common, along with smartphone and tablet apps to record keeping. We...

What is the best Schtick you've ever...

IRL, I have a bad habit of saying "I've seen this movie" followed by a description of the film when I see/experience something that (often sarcastically) reminds me of a film or tv show. When our currently epic level campaign started, the dice were not kind to me, and I wound up with a very...

How fast do your PCs level up?

My answer is similar to Ahnehnois. We level up every session almost, though it isn't for any philosophical reason. We just play fast and hard, we're power gamers, and we love challenges. This all adds up to a super-fast advancement until epic level is reached. If we decide to continue into epic...

    Bad DMs/GMs

I'm usually pretty forgiving of DM's, but there are three things that really get my goat: 1.) Ramrodding. Ramrodding is different the railroading. To me, railroading is when an adventure or scenario forces to a specific choice, thereby turning the game into a rail shooter. Not my preferred...

    The best adventure...

My idea of the best adventure is the one that puts all of the elements mentioned into a blender (whilst measuring like an Old South cook) and hitting "shrape". The adventures where I get to have ample opportunity to grab victory from defeat in combat, live a story, and come up with a perfectly...

    LCD Gamign Tables?

Actually, I am not one hundred percent certain why it failed. It was working, and then it just quit producing a picture. It wood turn on, stay on, everything would seem to work find, but no picture or sound. I finally broke down and took it apart, and I found two things which may or may not be...

    Maps/Tiles or Dry/Wet Erase?

Our group uses high res scans of maps printed on a large format printer along with old fashioned miniatures. If the image in question is an old school dungeon type, then we vector trace it so that it scales appropriately. If not, then we blow it up as big as we can without significant...

    Tabletop Projection

If you cut it up and match the image to resolution, and load a new image each time they move into a new area, then yeah, it will work. I've used 640 x 480 projectors as map projectors before. It is not ideal, but if you have appropriately formatted images and don't need high detail it works.

    LCD Gamign Tables?

My group and I have tried it, using a 48" RCA LCD. at the native resolution of 1024 by 720. It worked well enough, especially when we hooked it to a linux box using wii-motes as laser sensors. We used this setup for both a "draw on the fly" over a map session and a miniatures + images setup...
