    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 7 Live on D&D Beyond

While your language is more... colorful than mine, I agree that this is bad symmetry. I like the idea of having str requisites for heavy range weapons. It would legitimise both Strength (as an ability score) and the existence of the shortbow/light crossbow as viable (and potentially preferable)...

D&D General Finally, a real explanation of HP!

Figuratively speaking, yes, that’s what hit points are.

D&D General What do you actually like about D&D?

It’s a role playing game and I love role playing games but more specifically about D&D and 5e… its history and legacy it strikes the right balance between too crunchy and too light not everything is codified vancian magic abstracted concepts of defence and health variety of dice its malleability

D&D General Finally, a real explanation of HP!

I prefer to see it as a way to include any narrative you want.

D&D General Finally, a real explanation of HP!

HP are “no” points. DM says “the orc kills you”, you say “no”. DM says “the orc really wants you dead” with 9 “I-want-to-kill-you” points. As long as you answer with 9 “no-I-won’t-die” points, the orc doesn’t kill you. If the orc wants you more dead than your ability to say no, you die...

What have you done for your DM/GM at the end of a campaign?

"I survived [DM's name] 10-year campaign and all I got is this lousy T-shirt" alternatively, "I had to put up with [player] for 10 years and all I got is this lousy T-shirt"

When Your Great Idea Isn’t Being Received Like You Expected

That's 99% of my experience on these boards. "Why doesn't everyone bow down to my bottomless wisdom?" I ask myself every time one of my posts fails to draw good support. A logical conclusion may be drawn off of this, but I prefer thinking that everyone else is just wrong ;)

    Paizo Unveils Two New Classes

Not much interested in PF2 but I dig these. The oceanic aesthetics of the exemplar is novel, if anything.

They Stole My Idea! (Accidental Plagiarism)

Happens with RPG rules (and houserules) all the time. Sometimes i see something in a (published) RPG and think to myself; "wait, I had the same idea almost words for words years ago!" Sometimes its "wait, I had the same idea almost words for words years ago! Never mind, they had it first..."

What is the Best Licensed RPG?

Hard to pass on WEG's Star Wars. Not my favourite system for Star Wars but as others said, it supported the whole franchise for me until the Star Wars revival more than a decade later. Honorable mention to TOR (1st ed) coming as a very close second. It was the first time I really thought a RPG...

What have you done for your DM/GM at the end of a campaign?

Interestingly, I've seen more of the opposite; DMs giving gifts to their players at the end of a campaign. My friends have a mug with an illustration of their characters from an older campaign. I gave playmobil figurines that (to the best that playmobil figurines can offer) represented their...

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

Treasure in D&D (and most TTRPG) is a bit weird. Treasure should be something adventurers aspire for as a mean to live in comfort, possibly retire and not have to risk their life all the time. Instead, it mostly exist (since 3e era at any case) as a mean to be better adventurer and keep on...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the "True Issues" with 5e?

The 6-8 encounters per day thing. I can nickpick on a few other things such as specific spells and two-weapon fighting, but the encounter expectation affects allotment and regeneration of abilities on a more fondamental level. Another issue I have with 5e is how anything that is mildly...

D&D General Class based off these traits

Seconded on gloomstalker ranger and vengeance paladin. Also, hexblade warlock if DM is lenient on the patron weapon thing

D&D General When the fiction doesn't match the mechanics

There are different types of narratives, each matching (or not) different rules. With the narratives I like to use, the following are my biggest disconnect... - Dragons sleeping on mountains of gold. There would be millions(!) of gold pieces in a mound that big. With a few thousand pieces and...

D&D General Druid, Ranger & Barbarian: What distinguishes the magic of the Primal classes?

I'm not sure if I agree with your vision of druid/ranger/barbarian (but than again, I tend to view these thing differently than most), but I agree that they all draw more or less from the same power source. That's how I see primal magic; as an unrefined power source that exist within nature but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pitch me a new WotC setting (+)

The "reskin" setting. Reskin all basic races/species as human ethnicities, reskin magical traditions into something (slightly) different matching the mechanics of the classes, and reskin monsters to different aesthetics. Elevator pitch: The world has moved into a new age after the academicians...
