That the Swordcoast looks like Canada came from the fact that Ed Greenwood is Canadian and in some ways Canada is what FR is based on, loosely.

If your going for broken, Lore Wizard all the way. I'd suggest Divine Soul Sorcerer, that way you also get a nice taste of Cleric too. If not DS, then Shadow Magic is cool.

I think WotC will come thru relatively unscathed. Wildemount has already sold tons, so far the most popular campaign setting book for 5e. Theros is already selling very well, although not crazy well like Wildemount. Other stuff might have to be delayed sadly, but it's not like WotC puts out...

The SCAG is too small, its like the 5e Player's Guide to Faerun to a proper 5e FRCG that doesn't exist yet. The none Swordcoast regions don't have enough meat to be usable.

The Forgotten Realms has tons of its own ideas and merits, it just assimilates other settings to add to its perfection.
