    Dragon 365 - Artificer

Do it mechanically like the Wizard's spellbook. Possibly also allow utilities to be swapped after an extended rest. However, not yet... Remember, we have only half the class right now - if you did it mechanically like the wizard's spellbook, the artificer as it stands woudn't have as many...

    Reviewing the Artificer

Hence only mildly annoyed. I am building up a human artificer, and will do so even if I can't talk my DM into letting me have something as a third at-will

Let's pretend I never said that, since I said in other contexts that I would guess the artificer to be an arcane leader. /me goes off to chew his words

    Dragon 365 - Artificer

I was suprised to not see an "Artificer's Bow" item property a la "Pact Blade": Artificer's Weapon- Level 3+ (see pact blade for costs per bonus - I'm lazy) Weapon: Ranged or Thrown (usually crossbows or daggers) Enhancement: Attack Rolls and Damage Rolls Critical:+1d6 damage per plus Property...

    Reviewing the Artificer

Found it - something is eating my cookies on this machine so I wasn't signed in. I am also mildly annoyed that you lose one of your race abilities to play a human artificer (only 2 at-wills presented)

Uh, do we have a link? The TOC for Dragon 365 doesn't

    New 2009 Products up.

The PHB 1 includes 4 Martial (covering all the roles but controller); it only includes 2 each of the Arcane and Divine. Arcane is missing defender and leader; Divine is missing controller and striker. I suspect we will not see an arcane leader, nor a divine striker (and that arcane will double...

What are the big non-d20/non-D&D Game Systems?

I know that it's gone into a bit of a glide since FASA shut down, but where's the love for Shadowrun? IT's gotten, what, 3 menitons in this thread. But it's out there, has fairly regular releases, runs a successful shared-adventure series (Shadowrun Missions).

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

At a much higher cost in book-keeping, particularly between sessions...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

Rules-wise, because the daily powers are powerful - they are powerful enough that the DM and the other players doesn't want to see them every combat. If this isn't acceptable from a stricly mechanical point of view, this isn't going to work for you. 4E has accepted there will be things every...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

This was, essentially, the rational for miss-chance in 3E. There's a reason it's gone. I would rather have the metagame construct of at-will/encounter/daily (AED) than potentially never see the Ultimate Move of Ultimate Coolness because my dice hate me (or my players - I play both sides of the...

    Missiles in melee combat

QFT. Making rules that mean an archer is 2 feats behind everyone else screws the archer. If you don't take those to feats, you screw the party becaue you are less effective in combat. There's a saying in the Puzzle Pirates forums (among others) Fun > Realism. That's at play here

Selling items : illogical rule ?

I didn't see "world sim" on the tin; I saw "game that tries to be fun for all participants".Sorry for the snark, but I don't want a world sim; I want a fun game. I don't have TIME for a world sim any more.

    Death of the LGS

OK - I think I may have to trek up to Fair Lawn one of these days. You're about 10 mi/10 min farther away than my *F*LGS (and much closer than my not-so-F-LGS); but I'm not all that impressed by the FLGS. (It has the advantage of being very close to my work though). I used to come out to your...

Do nonmagical 1/day abilities damage suspension of disbelief?

It helped me when I added "in bed" "and it works" or "this time it has the following additional effects" to the descriptions. Of course you are trying to do these things every time you attack; but most of the time it doesn't work out that way. This brings the number of brain BSoDs down to an...

    Missiles in melee combat

No and no; and good thing too. The first one meant any archer had to blow 2 feats to offset penalties or be useless once the melee started. Be anything other than a fighter or a human, and spend your first level sucking; and play catchup across your entire career because you're down 2 feats...

Should NPCs Have to Follow the Same Rules as PCs?

I love this post and want to bear its children. This is where "the mystery" that some complainers about having the magic items in the PHB is hiding. It's not in the rules (the most common rules should be known by all). It's in the things that break the rules. And 4E tells you what the...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

Too much work for too little effect. the At-will/encounter/daily power economy gets most of that without needing any book/token-keeping.

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

Unless I'm very much mistaken (I could be, I've generally just skimmed the martial classes); all of the martial daily exploits consist of Take a <type> action, do x[w] and <power> affects the target(s). So even if the character has used <power> today, he can try again - it just won't work. They...

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

Uh, yeah. I competed in wrestling in high school; you don't need to sell me on the advantages of knocking your opponent down or grappling with him. So you are looking for a mechanical advantage - which is where the use of powers comes in. If you get a mechanical advantage out of it, it's a...
