    Ok, just tell me Why

My wife does editing for a couple of OGL publishers, and she is very happy she will never have to proof a 3.5 NPC stat block again; especially once you start layering the templates. That says something to me about 3.5 NPC design...

Eulogize your favorite slaughtered sacred cow.

Same way you make a magic item, it costs you the purchase price in time materials, etc... To follow up on a phrase I've seen leveled at 3.5 magic items - the GP economy is a point-buy enhancement system. The 4E money rules formalize this in a lot of ways. It does mean that the PCs do not...

    Where's the oppressive fluff?

The DMG may suggest that, but I haven't found that a lot of prep time has been necessary all the time. I'd like to have a palette of monster stats that I can draw from and completely wing the night's adventure. This was my typical pattern for running games other than D&D; and something that I...

    Core Set Vs. Books

Maybe your cats. Neither of mine will fit

    Well that was fun...

I'm reasonably sure WotC will be glad to sell you around 200 pages of fluff come the campaign settings...

    Fourth Edition just feels... incomplete

as you wish, but (3.0) haste and Polymorph are to examples of OP spells, I am not surprised at all that Polymorph is gone. I am reasonably sure there is a power similar to 3.5 haste, but Wizards may not have it (sounds like a Leader ability). Summon Monster is probably also gone from Wizards for...

    Excerpt: Archons (merged)

Uh... I was arguing in favor of 4e. Sarcasm or missing my point?

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

As a ritual, Overland flight isn't quite so gamebreaking as a power; though I would place it at higher than the ritual that allows you to teleport to a known teleport circle, since you can go anywhere and change your destination on the way.

    [EB] Artificer Thoughts

I would be looking at the dailies to enhance multiple pieces of equipment at a time, until the end of the encounter, or the ability to use a rituals as an power for that encounter. The encounters either one piece of gear for the encounter, or multiple pieces until the artificer's end of next...

    Neceros' Landscape Character Record Sheet

It'd be nice as a word template, but a PDF would be nice as well. It's one of the prettiest character sheets I've seen in a long time, as well as being useful

    First rule I don't like

Funny, I never had a problem with this in a game where subdual damage is easy, cheap, and powerful (shadowrun). Generally speaking, the PCs never cared whether they killed the opponent or merely dropped them unconcious (barring squaring off against the cops, or the handful of bar brawls they...

    Halflings?

Just as a note - someone pointed out to me that Teleport effects (unless otherwise specified) require LoS (but not LoE). Since the Eladrin doesn't override teh LoS requirement, it's not terrifically powerful (nice, don't get me wrong; but it means that in the majority of cases the Eladrin could...

    Class progression

Yeah - but there is at least one example of a class feature that says "it works like a power" - the clerics Divine whatchamacallit. As I said, though, I'd refer to them all as "powers", even if they might not necessarily be defined as such.

    Class progression

I stand corrected - the technical definition of "power" is "ability granted by class". Nonetheless, there are things that look, sound, and act like powers (dragonsborn breath, cleric channel Divinity, etc) that I may refer to (sloppily) as powers.

[House Rule]Resizing weapons/being small and using weapons

What would you all think of allowing the Enchant Magic Item ritual to resize magic weapons in the same manner it allows the resizing of magic armor? This would allow the PCs to get use out of a giant's weapons as well as their armor (the example in EMI is specifically a giant's armor being...

    Class progression

Sneak attack is an at will power, each pact is a power. "Power" is a term for "this ability is an exception to the normal order of things"; since the design is exception-based, this is not surprising. Most class features are powers, most powers are class features (some class features are...

    [EB] Artificer Thoughts

I', not talking mechanics just yet; but design. The Artificer of 3.5 has the same issues as the Wizard, no focus. What power source and role does the Artificer fit into? Once you know that, you can then go onto power design. These are questions that Wizards has asked, and Keith Baker has...

So after reading the classes in full what do people think?

Except that this kind of "parity" was shown the egress in 4E design per any number of preview articles... Now, if you were running a Discworld variant, you'd have a case

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

The spell in Glory Road was quite definitely a ritual. I just reread that a short time back. (A book that deserves to be on a lot more recommended reading lists for the genre, politics or no politics)
