Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Hrm you wouldn't think they would let him be an Auror, having used (or tried to use) two of the unforgivable curses.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

In at least the film version of The Chamber of Secrets, Tom Riddle spells out "Tom Marvolo Riddle" and rewrites it in the air to spell out "I am Lord Voldemort." I don't recall if that was in the book as well, since it's been ages since I read it. But that's where he got his name, iirc.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - POTENTIAL SPOILERS

I beg to differ. The vast majority of the Weasleys (especially George and *sniff* Fred) were happy people who did their best to remain a family under tough circumstances. I never really heard much whining from any of them - except Ron, of course. I thought the epilogue served a purpose: it...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince point of discussion (Spoilers)

I agree ~ however I do think Neville has a greater role than he has had thus far. She's been hinting at it for a long time now; it wouldn't come as a complete shock. I believe that Neville will have a very important part to play ~ without him, Harry won't be able to defeat Voldy ~ he will do...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince point of discussion (Spoilers)

We've already established that the filmmakers are taking liberties with the subtle nuances of the book that may become important later.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince point of discussion (Spoilers)

That's a very interesting theory! I think that the prophecy has to be about Harry at this point, though, because as Hermoine said, the prophecy is only retrieveable by the person that it's about. That's why Voldy needed Harry to go into the Ministry to get it.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince point of discussion (Spoilers)

Very interesting point. But if creating a horcrux requires malice and evil intent, I doubt DD had it in him. My husband and I believe so as well. We think that Neville will save the day. He's been a very quiet hero but he's played an important role so far. Remember that the prophecy...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix SPOILERS!!!

A very good point. One thing that I think was downplayed mucho in the film was the occlumency. Harry is trying to talk to Dumbledore and then he's whisked away by Snape. Then he's thrust into this occlumency. I don't think that they explained to the audience what was being done and why, very...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix SPOILERS!!!

I don't believe anyone told a teacher about it. In the book, it's only Harry that is tortured with the evil quill. I didn't get why they changed that for the movie other than to give Fred & George a reason to leave.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix SPOILERS!!!

Hear, hear. Although I understand the need for it - the books *are* written with children or preteens in mind, and things like Quidditch and the Yule Ball and boys asking girls out, etc, are designed for those readers.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix SPOILERS!!!

Yeah he had a few lines when they were having dinner at the Order headquarters. Regarding Dumbledore and Filch: Filch is a Squibb (i.e. born to wizard parents but without any magical talent himself) as is Mrs. Figg, the neighbor who helped Harry after the Dementor attack. That explains why...

    Vulgar language in fantasy

I guess I should have extended my sentence. As long as it fit the fantasy world in that particular piece of literature. If I'm reading a book set in the Middle Ages of Earth, I would not have a problem with "bugger" or another word from that time period. I would, however, have a problem with...

    Vulgar language in fantasy

I distinctly remember a quote from Shakespeare, loosely paraphrased, "Let it be known that I am an a**!" Some may consider that profanity *shrug* I agree with that. In my mind, I am reading to escape to a fantasy world. I'd rather not bring in gritty realism if I can avoid it. On the other...

    Ahhhhhh, stop typing that!

I saw an ad in Walmart that said how "nutritional" bananas are. I mentioned to the deli guy that they might want to change that to "nutritious," and he just gaped at me. Ah well. My pet peeves are: * Writing one huge paragraph .. I won't read it. Break it out if you want people to read it...

    Screen names and first impressions

I actually don't look at usernames while reading posts on message boards. I surf the web at work on the downlow and don't use the whole screen, just a small window. So I only make the window big enough to read the post text, not the screen name of the poster. I tend to use one-word names that...

    Pan's Labyrinth

We enjoyed it quite a bit. The director has an earlier fillm that's pretty good also, "The Devil's Backbone." Creepy ghost story - the ghost is particularly well done.

I'm not really into comics at the moment but I always loved "Elfquest." That's an oldie.

    Deathly Hallows - Guesses

One of the major themes of all of the books has been adults not wanting to tell the "children" the whole truth, which leads to speculation and misbehaving on the part of the children because they don't know what's going on and go to great lengths to find out. Molly keeps them from attending...
