D&D 5E (2014) Good disadvantage for missing heart?

From a traditionalist viewpoint, I don't like this. Most fantasy tropes have separating things like the heart and the soul from the rest of a person to be more of an "insurance policy" when it comes to durability. But as far as throwing the player for a loop, it could be interesting. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Good disadvantage for missing heart?

Excellent. I was trying to figure out a way to express that, but I kept going the skills route. Ability route is stronger.

D&D 5E (2014) Good disadvantage for missing heart?

You could also symbolically have the heart represent energy, or motivation, which could lend itself to a very strong benefit/drawback combo. Benefit: Undead fortitude as the Zombie ability (see MM) Drawback: Unmotivated: You must succeed at a DC 12 WIS check to take any reactions...

D&D 5E (2014) Good disadvantage for missing heart?

Yep. Caliban has it. If you're going the symbolic route. If you're going the mechanical/physical route, the heart is simply the way your blood gets around. Resistance to poison, advantage on poison saves Vulnerability to cold, disadvantage on saves versus cold attacks. I'd also suggest that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eternal See Invisible

And beyond that, it is not a matter of benefit or convenience, but of CONSEQUENCE. Per the spell description, "...you see invisible creatures and objects as if they were visible." This means you cannot distinguish a visible creature from an invisible one. It matters, because people may see...

    D&D 5E (2014) Precise Strike [Feat]

Hey, I didn't write the rulebook. ;) But I hunted for corroboration/clarification. Turns out your interpretation is the preferred one. https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/80977/does-a-critical-hit-from-an-expanded-crit-range-always-hit-regardless-of-ac Good to know, and good thing this...

    D&D 5E (2014) Precise Strike [Feat]

I cannot find this rule anywhere. Could you point me in the right direction? My reading is that a natural 20 is an automatic hit AND a critical hit (two separate qualities). Improved Critical (Champion ability) does NOT guarantee a hit on a 19. Also, to the OP: What is your goal in adding...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

If your bard doesn't use a theremin, what's the point?

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

I apologize in advance if anyone has made this observation already. If you are watching Into the Badlands, Bajie is a 5E bard. No question in my mind. He gets around, "knows stuff," has a rogue sensibility but isn't really a rogue, and relies on interpersonal activities to make things happen.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Treatise on Hiding

This is an extremely timely thread. Let's say a party is traveling through the hills. The rogue is wandering off and being stealthy. Rolled a stealth check and everything. But they can't actually see anyone to hide from. Are they still sneaky enough to stay hidden? Rules seem exceptionally...

    D&D 5E (2014) Describe me a hero!

I'm gonna go ahead and post the item. I have enough other crazy ideas I may not use this one, but I'd like to reward those who posted their thoughts. Enjoy! (And if you can find a way to make this description shorter, please let me know.) Yladrin's Hammer (legendary, requires attunement) I...

That's exactly it. It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet.

    D&D 5E (2014) Describe me a hero!

I need a physical description of a hero. All I can come up with is *blank*. And I'm not sure I want *blank*. But damn, he kinda just pops out with that "heroic" look. I'm not saying who blank is, because I don't want to poison the pool of ideas. What's this for? I'm designing a magic item...

D&D 5E (2014) Dark Delirium (Archfey Warlock) -- clearing out cobwebs

I'm finding it difficult to parse Dark Delirium, and I fully acknowledge that I'm likely reading too much into it. Blame it on general English geekiness and micro-analysis. The following Dark Delirium description was grabbed from the 5E Fandom wikia, but I have inserted line breaks as they...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you Help when you can't see?

So, just to close the loop, here's how I resolved the situation: The familiar can do exactly what the orc did. Rush in, and attempt to find the opponent using sound, movement and their intuition as to where the "center" of the darkness is. The part that stuck in my craw was that the familiar...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you Help when you can't see?

There are two schools of thought on a familiar Helping to attack. The first is that you have to be able to do something to be able to Help do it. In this case, because a standard familiar can't attack, advocates suggest that it cannot Help attack either. The second is that Helping as...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you Help when you can't see?

How would you rule this, or want it to be ruled? Enemy: Orc that's smarter and stronger than the average orc. Player character: Warlock who has cast Darkness on a mobile source that she's carrying. She also has Devil's Sight. Player character: Arcane Trickster with a Familiar Orc outside...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

As I understand it, that's what capstone means in the D&D context. The unavoidable consequence of dipping means you lose capstone abilities. When you dip/multiclass, you'll NEVER reach level 20 in any class unless your GM allows 20+ level characters. I tend to play in long-term games, and in...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

I agree with you that the original Ranger is a bad dip, but the Revised UA Ranger seems pretty decent for a dip. And all opinions on my original question are valid. I'm just looking for feels. I had a "plan" when I created my character, but as time went on, that plan didn't seem right from a...
