    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell nerfed!

But it's not a cantrip at all, that's just to show that some things use spell attacks without being spells. I can't think of any others off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's more.

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell nerfed!

If it's a melee or ranged spell attack, it still doesn't mean it's a spell. Some things use that wording without being spells, like a Star Druid's Archer form.

D&D General The Role and Purpose of Evil Gods

Reading the back and forth here, I'd lean on agreeing that there doesn't seem to be any concrete difference between the archfiends and evil gods. Personally, I'd say "god" at least sounds more legitimate than "demon lord" or "arch devil", so you could play it as the last two trying to become...

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell nerfed!

There are powerful non-spell magic abilities already, like portent, wildshape, channel divinity, and the like, so spellcasters have never really been restricted to just spells. For something like the war priest, I think it's just to have a consistent combo that uses magic-y stuff without being...

What is the most complex TTRPG of all time?

I've heard FATAL is pretty complex, but we don't talk about that one . . .

D&D 5E (2014) How much spare gold does your character you have?

My level 9 Druid had about 1000 gp on hand, but that campaign had magic item shops, so she was carrying some 6000 gp of those alone. The level 7 Barbarian in the same campaign had about 1100 gp on him, and some 1500 on items. My level 7 Cleric in another campaign had 0, we only got a big loot...

The infinite simulacrum chain can finally shine.

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Ranger: Drakewarden released at D&D Celebration

Seems fine besides the flight thing, which is easy enough to ignore. Edit: I could see a Warlock dip for the longer adventuring days so you can keep the dragon the whole time.

D&D General The Role and Purpose of Evil Gods

From what I can tell in the 5e DMG, Asmodeus is listed as the God of Tiranny, while Bane is the God of War and Conquest.

D&D 5E (2014) The semantics of the spell Sending

Scrying mentions "familiar" as well, and it says this: Which is not too helpful, but I guess it's worth mentioning.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

If it's more about stuff lore-wise rather than comparing PCs to the average member of the race, you can surely make it so people are surprised due to stereotypes, but there are a lot of mechanically different stuff that might look pretty similar in-world. A Strength Halfling Berserker Barbarian...

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Not sure what you mean by that. Just pointing out that Halflings being good Fighters isn't really against type, at least mechanics-wise (lore-wise, it probably is), their ASIs do fine for being a Fighter, they miss out on the GWM/PAM stuff, but they can always go SS/Crossbow-Expert instead.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Halflings make good Fighters, they just go Rapier and Medium Armor instead of Longsword and Heavy Armor. They can't go with heavy weapons due to small size, but getting +2 STR instead wouldn't change that.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

I think an issue is that, since the Commoner statblock is so pathetically weak, it's very trivial to surpass the average of a race as long as you're not dumping that stat. A Barbarian will probably put the 13 of the Standard Array into Dex, so, if he's an Orc, Goliath or Dwarf, he'll already be...

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Not really, not everything is do or die, you can prefer something without all your enjoyment hinging on it.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

People don't necessarily "need" anything, they just gotta "want" it, since this is a game for fun, they can ask for options that'll make the game more enjoyable for them. If they want to be powerful or play in a hard campaign, it's completely reasonable to want the ASIs to match their class.

Then the non-powergamers can use those combinations instead if they really have those concepts in mind, while the ones who only care about power make their characters that are slightly stronger than if they had used a Variant Human instead.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Yeah, humans are just too good. When I started playing with some other new players the party was Half-Orc, Aasimar, Wood-Elf and Half-Elf. When some of the characters died a bit later and we knew the game better, the Half-Orc became a VHuman, the Half-Elf became a VHuman, and the Aasimar left...

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Absolutely, but that's unrelated to the changing ability scores part. I think CL could be nerfed a little, but making a normal Half-Orc with +2 Int so he can be a wizard isn't really an issue at all, a Variant Human would just be better most of the time, and that goes for most unusual combinations.

D&D 5E (2014) Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

Not really, Custom Lineage gives a +2 to a stat, a feat, and darkvision or a skill, it trades racial powers for the feat, basically. Feats are usually better if you want to optimize. It's why I find this whole powergaming issue silly, if you want to optimize without Tasha's you just grab...
