Why do Halflings get damage bonuses?

Halfling (and gnome) capabilities in melee is one of those glaringly silly elements of D&D that everyone always loved to gloss over. I think this new mechanic only psychologically puts forgotten halfling-size deficiencies at the forefront again. Imagining a small teenager or tall child with a...

Cackling Manaically at the 13 Aug Legends and Lore

[/LIST] Fair enough, but variant has a point: spell complexity was the assumed in-game reason that a wizard could cast level 1 spells but level 2 spells runes were still too obfuscated to understand/memorize/cast. If spell level is a reflection of raw power, and not complexity, then in-game, a...

Cackling Manaically at the 13 Aug Legends and Lore

Someone mentioned a system that had Simple, Complex and Exotic spells IIRC. Complex spells could require a day's rest, and Simple spells need less. At-will spells might be Very Simple spell runes and you can juggle a number of these simple spell runes around in your mind's eye at a time.

    D&D 4E This isn't my 4e - I like it!

I think there's more to it. Like say, 2E, isn't that Dragons play with Dungeons crunch?

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

If you say so, I thought I detected an undercurrent of condescension between the various or certain posters on this subtopic, but I'll take your comment at face value :) My two cents: I don't know where I am on your deep-shallow immersion spectrum. Probably both. Which is to say that it's like...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

In Enworld Vietnam, nobody wins. What's the next subtopic? How about how to eliminate or at least reduce dailies from the game with an alternative elegant mechanic (seems to be a popular idea here) so that everyone's happy. What's 5E's track record on that?

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

I see, so it's sort of like: In real life, writing with a pen and typing on a keyboard use probably use different muscles or the same muscles to different extents. So, in a fantasy world, writing with a pen makes my forearm so tired that I can't type on a keyboard. In the real world, you've...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

So what? If you're saying that Daily Hate was not fully explained to your satisfaction, that's one thing (and it's nobody's obligation to do so); but it was explained.

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

There are so many red herrings on Enworld, I'm sick of them. Bob: I don't like A Joe: Why don't you like A????!!!!!! Bob: Because of [so-and-so] Joe: But why do like B???!!!!!! There's the same thing! Bob: No, they're not equivalent Joe: Yes, they are Bob: No, because... [allows himself to be...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

There are answers to that too, like there's been for every red herring ever posed on every Enworld thread. This is the Daily Hate thread. I'm sticking to it.

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

I'm not sure it's as analagou as you imply. You weren't trying to sell a novel to Lord Mhoram ("imagine a fantasy world where..."), you were trying to sell a biography ("the Kodokan Institute details 67 ways..."). That is, I think you addressed Lord Mhoram on real-life terms, and then only...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Not to harp on you, but then why did you reference "67 ways to throw an opponent" by the very real-life Kodokan Institute in order to be "fairly sure that not all of them would use the same set of muscles" in order to alleviate Lord Mhoram's concern about "why is he too tired for one, but not...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

OK, then logically (colloquial sense) experience is more relevant than speculation towards drawing a conclusion. Ya, that level of logic is probably a red herring and unhelpful and frustrating, to be honest. Not in a thread asking to explain about 'Daily Hate' it isn't. This isn't the 'Daily...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I don't think it's that stringent. Even you pointed out before that things that passively happen to the PC or affect things primarily at the metagame level don't necessarily include a feeling of dissociation. Or did you already backpedal on that epiphany? I'm a bit bummed because I thought we...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Logically, you should try martial arts again for several years before you decide what its logical. And you carry that force and consistency of logic with you wherever you go, including the idea that fighters have muscles in D&D that magically get tired independently. It's not even...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Because it doesn't follow that a) D&D world has magical things b) fighters are in the D&D world c) therefore fighters have muscles that magically become tired independently d) i want (c) to be true soooooooo badly because of the Daily mechanic that I'll say anything to justify it I dislike it...

D&D 5E (2014) How much should 5e aim at balance?

That's irrelevant. You haven't even come close to showing that a feeling of dissociation is primarily the result of the majority of people determined to hate 4e, and nobody else seems to be talking about you're speculating about (ie., equating that assumption to 5e). That is not the solution to...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

No, that's wrong. In martial arts, you try frequently. You try constantly. Most of the time you don't succeed. You don't know if you will succeed unless you try. Your explanation above only relates to perceiving possible opportunities. No character can correctly predict the outcome. It's not...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Probably. I'd like to be more magnanimous. And if you want to be scientific about it, you need a reading of the fan-base. We people on Enworld with our penchant for arguments and overstatements haven't been proved to be at the median of the distribution curve representating the fan base. So I'd...

D&D 5E (2014) How much should 5e aim at balance?

That's not even the same thing. No one is forcing a gaming group to "[pick] out a set of modules that doesn't work for their style". 4E is not modular. The nature of its mechanics are pervasive throughout the system, you play it or you go home. Furthermore, 5E seems to be go through the pains of...
