    Fixing Gravity

I see your encyclopedia neglected to factor in air resistance. But perhaps it had to do with the difference between the question you were looking to answer, and the question you found the answer to. Your terminal velocity 25 miles up may well make you the fastest man alive by some standards...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Perfect Being or something like that from one of the dragons. They end up with just insane saves, even for a monk. I didn't realize it was so political. I'll send you my copy with a self addressed stamped envelope so you can send it back after you've finished blacking it out. &:{<-- self...

Which is better: Offense or Defense?

Funny you should mention that. The reason Patton favored offense, mobility and agression so much was that it was a doctorine he considered saved lives, and that was the only advantage that mattered. Defensive actions are notoriously costly, and not always on both sides. With enough offense...

[OT] Computer upgrades (was: RAM upgrades)

...that'll push prices lower... It's early for me too. And yeah, SCSI is faster...but it's a whole lot more expensive. But since I'm all about "that'll push prices lower", I'll just say it has its places. For a desktop, IDE is fine.

[OT] Computer upgrades (was: RAM upgrades)

There is something of a caveat missing in there. Adding more ram often increases the size of your swap file. And depending on your hard drive and its state, this in some instances actually will decrease your performance. Sometimes drastically. Oh and wait till the new set of HD's come out, a...

    [OT] CD to MP3

It might be worth noting that this a little more than an individual opinion. In the last shoot-out which included mp3, mp3pro, real and even microsofts version 9 beta, ogg won, handily even. Appearently some of the audiophiles involved in the shootout mistook the ogg at 128 for the...

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Hey, there is at least one monk prestige class that is a harm mocking machine. Hit with harm? No problem. If this little guy goes below 0, he gets an instant heal, once per day. And the cleric may well not survive the round he cast harm in.

Which is better: Offense or Defense?

I'm going to defer to George S. Patton. Offense, all the way. Attack with overwhelming force leave nothing of your enemy but smoking ruin and the need for a defense if moot. Besides, it much harder to protect than destroy. Witness the hawkish behavior of the US of late. Sure it's at least...

    Do familiars get darkvision/lowlight vision

I tend to rule 0 a lot of the stuff like this I consider deffecient. I would give animals the vision benefits of what I consider their real world equivalents to have. All predator species that hunt at night get low light vision. All prey species would probably get a bonus to their spot checks...

    [DM Advice]

Players are from Mars, DM's are from Jupiter Normally, when there is a huge communication break down like that, I try to make sure the player and I are both perfectly clear about what's going on. If they decide to go off in to space with some kooky assumption after that, well they're the...

    [OT] Favorite Band?

I gotta stick with the best band in the history of the universe, They Might Be Giants. They rule, they rock, they teach the children. My number two and three bands might be Nerf Herder and Cake though.

Tracy Hickman's view of the Dragon #300 sealed section

By accusing Tracy Hickman of slander, in writing, you have libeled him. (All the law I know I learned by watching spider-man).

Tracy Hickman's view of the Dragon #300 sealed section

Collin Powell's son heads the FCC. You should see some of the things they've handed fines out for lately. Including but not limited to a teenage asking health related questions. Meanwhile if I wanted to say anything was particularly cruel, and grossly inappropriate about the gay and lesbian...

Tracy Hickman's view of the Dragon #300 sealed section

Re: Terrorism???? If I read as poorly as some of the people on this thread, I'd certainly be ashamed, even humiliated. Even through the inflammatory hyperbole, Mr. Hickman's point was obvious. "Are there really so many people who would rather be villians than heroes that it really justifies...

Tracy Hickman's view of the Dragon #300 sealed section

He does have a point. There isn't any undoing this. Just as you're not putting b*tch, a**, and sh*t back in the bottle on american tv. (Even though the FCC is in the hands of the ultra conservatives.) And it's a lot of ammo to be handing the kooks in america at this time. Espescially...

Coup de grace... A moral stand point...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Coup de grace... A moral stand point... By using "the bad guys" Anubis included, perhaps unintentionally, an all in there. You yourself said that there are different rules for different bad guys, again it all depends on context. As I indicated in the post prior to...

Coup de grace... A moral stand point...

A coup d'Grace would probably only be an honorable act if used to end a foes pointless suffering. Once rendered helpless, the fight is essentially over. If the PC's kill a beaten foe laying prostrate at their mercy, they didn't kill the foe as a course of the battle, they murdered him in cold...
