Heighten Spell => Increased Damage Cap?

Jeez. Only five days ago. I missed that thread. It does seem pretty dang coincidental that my PC asked that same question just today, and used a 5th fireball as an example, eh? :) Oh well. The answer's still the same: Nope. Thanks again, D

    Thought so. Thanks fellas.

Heighten Spell => Increased Damage Cap?

A fireball (Wiz/Sor3) normally has a cap of 10d6. If I Heighten it, per the metamagic feat, it is in all ways treated as a spell of a higher level. Question: Does Heightening a spell increase the max damage cap per spell level (pg 35 3.5 DMG) - thereby making a heightened (level 5) fireball...

I'm still here. Was out last night. Will get something up today hopefully. :)

D&D 3.x COMPILED 3.5 ERRATA, courtesy of Olgar Shiverstone and other ENWorlders.

Not sure if this is an error or not. Maybe someone else can help me out. The Bebilith seems to be the only higher-CR demon that does not have a listed SR. Nor does the Beb's "Special Qualities" section list the immunities and resistances common to demons, as other demon entries do. D

Sins of Our Fathers - 2/10 - Final Update

To Summon a Demon...or Not John pushed himself out of the bronze tub – the water had lost most of its heat – and wrapped a bearskin about him. He felt refreshed. Days and nights on the road were nothing new to him, but the past tenday or so had been filled with harrowing encounters. First...

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

And there you have it. Thanks coyote! And (Psi)SeveredHead - good thinking, too, on the Project Image. I felt I bit off a little too much to chew when I picked Aboleth right off the bat. Their illusionary abilities make them a difficult - and highly diverse - opponent. D

[3.5] Penalties, clarifications and other issues

Not nearly as hidden, I s'pose, but two little gems I liked seeing: 1) A set amount of time required to use Diplomacy to change NPC's reactions, and suggested modifiers if a PC attempts to influence NPC's within a shorter time frame. 2) Scry now allows Spell Resistance.

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

In my current campaign, the group of would-be heroes wandered upon a Frost Worm. Actually, two of them - a mating pair. Though they weren’t mating at the time. Anyway, the frosties resided beneath a Temple of Auril in a series of tunnels fashioned, over the years, by the worms’ constant...

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

Re: Cool Idea Check out any thread by BLACKDIRGE in the Rogue's Gallery forum. He regularly, and expertly, applies templates to 'standard' creatures. Includes pretty solid backgrounds, too. I'll try to bang out another monster or two tonight. D

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

Me too. But then - I'm biased. Even if this does become an "arms race" between DM's creating tactics and players countering them, I think the upside is much higher than any supposed drawbacks. The aboleth example, for example, may give a DM a nudge one way or another to better use the...

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

I just picked the first entry in the 3.5 MM to use as an example, mirroring the format of those monsters that already have Round-by-Round tactics included in their description. The below recommendation was done fairly quickly - it's late and I'm tired - so there's a good chance it includes...

[3.5/3.0] Collaborative Effort: Collection of Round-by-Round Monster Tactics

Gentlefolk, I thought - incorrectly, as it turns out - that a majority of the creatures listed within the 3.5 MM would include a round-by-round breakdown of suggested tactics. They don't. And they should. I was wondering if there's any interest within the community to fix this 'omission.'...

    3.5 Monster Manual Issues

Regarding combat tactics I really can't think of a good reason why they didn't, indeed, include round-by-round tactics for many, many more creatures. That's my largest (and pretty much - only) complaint with 3.5. I was led to believe, as it appears you were, that many of the creatures would...

Sins of Our Fathers - 2/10 - Final Update

Ciddry Revisited It took the party an hour to make the journey from the forested meadow to the town of Ciddry. It took John less than half that to realize he hated Breof’s pigs as much as he did the Rornman they had left dead on Olgotha’s altar stone. The infernal beasts continually got...

Sins of Our Fathers - 2/10 - Final Update

Pigs & Crowns The party was a day’s ride from Olgotha Mound when winter made an unseasonably early appearance. Clouds the color of despair came sweeping southward across the Reaversward, blanketing the land in a snowy mantle. Raylin used the weather to replenish the group’s stores; he bagged...

Sins of Our Fathers - 2/10 - Final Update

Hmm...I can see that my players have let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, regarding our old rules system. On the whole, Whist really is a powerful gaming device. :) Not at all! On the contrary, I feel honored to be compared to Sep's story hour - in whatever light. I'm a reader, too! I...
