    Why does D&D have bears?

I respectfully disagree with that opinion.

    Why does D&D have bears?

*shrug* Playing in a world that alien would probably hurt my immersion. I was able to handle it in Star Wars role-playing, but we already had the movies to establish a lot of details of the setting for us. I think if the DM had to constantly explain the differences in even the most common...

    In Remembrance:2007

Not quite the magnitude of Merv, but I'll miss his work: Mike Wieringo passed yesterday. http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125110 Some comments from his friends: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125150

Sense of Wonder: What is it to you?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately in an attempt to recapture it for our games. I've come to the conclusion that one of the primary elements of Sense of Wonder for me was youth. When I was 12 all I had to worry about was taking out the garbage and cleaning my room. I had all kinds of...

BEOWULF - a Robert Zemeckis film

It's funny, I had the same reaction to The Polar Express. For some reason this flick seems to have overcome that for me (at least from what I've seen so far).

    Does anyone else miss Avatar?

Yeah I saw that the other day at http://avatarspirit.net . It was a pretty cool teaser, but it certainly served to heighten the anguish I've felt while awaiting the third season. I've come to realize that Avatar is my favourite TV show (animated or otherwise) at this point.

    [The Le] comics-to-film reviews

Well they're both stereotypes as far as I'm concerned: Cyclops is the Straight-Man while Wolverine is the Loose Cannon. Colossus is the Strong Guy, Shadowcat is the Naive Kid, Nightcrawler the Dashing Rogue, Beast is the Smart Guy, Professor X is the Wise Mentor, Angel the Cool Wealthy Guy, Ice...

I'm still not seeing it beyond them both being leaders.

August - What are you reading?

Since I posted this in the July thread yesterday (I'm none too bright), I guess I'll just re-post here: I'm just about done The Children of Hurin and I've found it enjoyable so far, if not as engaging as LoTR (which I ascribe to tCoH not being really finished). After that I've got a bit of a...

July - what are you reading?

It is my first Kay. This is the first time I've really heard anything but positive reviews of Fionavar (of course, I'm only going with what my friends say - I've never read an actual review.) I figure I'll still start there though as my friend just gave me the trilogy for free the other day...

July - what are you reading?

I'm just about done The Children of Hurin and I've found it enjoyable so far, if not as engaging as LoTR (which I ascribe to tCoH not being really finished). After that I've got a bit of a queue: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (Susanna Clarke) The Fionavar Tapestry (Guy Gavriel Kay) The...

Crappy writing? Bad direction? I don't think them buggering up Prof X had anything to do with James Marsden.

I always thought they did that because he was jumping ship to Superman Returns.

    [The Le] comics-to-film reviews

So all that is required to be "the Aragorn of the X-men" is to be their leader? That's a pretty shaky analogy as far as I'm concerned. I'm not trying to knock someone's taste in comic characters (just a gentle ribbing is all), but I would take some convincing to think of Cyclops as anything...

    [The Le] comics-to-film reviews

Was that Mutant X? I never could get into that one myself. I liked that show quite a bit; I thought it was pretty high-quality stuff with strong acting and a superhero costume that actually looked good on screen (and was faithful). I'm pretty sure the whole series is out on DVD somewhere.

    America gets crappy Adultswim

I wouldn't give the storyline big points for originality, but it is still decent. I find the voice acting pretty solid as well, but the thing that grabs me is the visuals: I've never seen anything like that in a weekly animated series before. I find I spend most of my time just enjoying how nice...

BEOWULF - a Robert Zemeckis film

And I wasn't thrilled with 1602, but I still see his involvement as an encouraging sign. The man knows a thing or two about fantasy stories at the very least.
