    D&D 5E (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

If I had to make a flat-out guess, I'd say they reverted back due to simpler calculation (2 x RANGE is much easier than 30 x LEVEL). Not everybody can make those computations quickly and having to whip out a calculator slows down combat.

    D&D 5E (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

At the risk of putting my head on the chopping block, I’ll admit that I made the following suggestions in the survey: THIRSTING BLADE- remove the level 11 attack. Limit it to just 2 attacks like the Barbarian, Monk, Paladin, and Ranger. ELDRITCH BLAST- drop it down from a d10 to a d8, so it’s...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

Maybe some of the more powerful spells should have casting times greater than 1 Action but less than 1 Minute. For example, say a Fireball has a casting time of 2 Actions. The caster starts conjuring the flame seed in their current turn and launches it on their next turn, and in the meantime...

D&D 5E (2024) What variant rules do you want to see?

🤚 I’m not good with “arbitrary” and prefer to have a codified method of awarding XP

D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

The Crab Bucket Conundrum sounds rather catchy.

D&D 5E (2024) Flying fighter with Topple vs multiple flying enemies

Over in the other forum I frequent regularly (civfanatics), there is a saying, “gameplay trumps reality.” They try to make the game as realistic as possible. But if that realism interferes with the game being enjoyable and/or makes the rules too complicated, then realism be damned! Fun in a...

D&D 5E (2014) Not Again! Retreater Needs to Balance 5e for 7 Players

Or an even simpler way to do initiative that still allows the players’ Dexterity and Initiative modifiers to matter: at the start of combat, have everyone roll as normal, but use standard board game rules. Whoever rolls highest goes first, then proceed clockwise around the table. That way...

    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 7 Live on D&D Beyond

Ahh, there it is. I knew I was missing something somewhere. I think they should probably limit that to magical melee weapons in the future.

    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 7 Live on D&D Beyond

Why is his Longbow doing 1d8+5 instead of 1d8+2? Pact of the Blade only conjures a melee weapon. Also, as has already been pointed out, GWM is off the board due to lack of Martial Weapon Proficiency.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

What I was getting at is that the way the 18th level ability is worded, it doesn't mention anything about spell level. There's nothing that says it can be more than the cantrip that War Magic mentions at 7th level, nor does it say that it can't be a level 3 (or eventually level 4) spell. If it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

According to the Eldritch Knight change notes: Improved War Magic now allows you to replace two of your attacks with casting a level 1 or 2 spell, allowing the Eldritch Knight to further weave magic into their attacks. But in the actual ability description it only says: LEVEL 18: IMPROVED WAR...

    D&D 5E (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

This bolded part reminds me of an incident that happened when i was younger. I had just finished off a carton of ice cream and my dad got mad saying, "That's it! I'm not buying ice cream anymore. All you kids ever do is eat it." Well, yeah. That's the point of buying food: so that we can...

D&D 5E (2024) Class spell lists and pact magic are back!

Maybe that reference is too old for this crowd 🤷🏻‍♂️ On a side not, I finally convinced my 11 year old daughter to start that series since she just finished the Harry Potter books and was looking for something else to read.

    D&D 5E (2024) PHB Playtest Packet 7 drops Thrusday, September 7.

Huh. I swear Jeremy mentioned in a previous video that the Necromancer was going to be one of the Wizard subclasses. I guess they changed their minds.

D&D General What do you NOT want systems for?

I've never been a fan of multi-classing to begin with because it leads to all the broken builds. WotC has a hard enough time balancing individual classes against each other, and this imbalance just gets exacerbated when multi-classing gets involved. As a result, some of the design decisions...

D&D General What do you NOT want systems for?

At the risk of angering the entire Enworld community, I'd love to see Multiclassing go the way of the Dodo. Or, if Multiclassing MUST be endured, I'd like the following rules: 1) You can only have 2 classes. No Fighter 3/Rogue 3/Sorcerer 1/Druid 2. 2) At least one of the classes needs to be...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predictions for Playtest packet 7's arrival

NGL, I would have loved to have had the long weekend to pore over UA 7. Any chance they'll release it on a Friday?

    D&D 5E (2024) Predictions for Playtest packet 7's arrival

Perhaps you missed the part where I said, "after they're finished with the PHB UAs." The PHB UAs need extensive playtesting before we can fill out the surveys. But the DMG doesn't really need it. We can read the changes and form conclusions without any "playtesting" involved. The MM might...

    D&D 5E (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

Maybe he was just varying his adjectives so as not to sound repetitive? I do that all the time in my speaking/writing. I not a big fan of using the same words over and over and will change things up with synonyms if a can. For instance, in my first sentence I used the words "varying" and...
