Oops! I just realized that I meant to post the spells I have planned so far and didn't: fly (3.0 version) Alikaba's theft (BoEM III) death knell tongues shout cause fear

    Brainstorming: The Staff of Ravens

I like all of these suggestions. . . But: I'm worried about running off into Rod territory with the babble and swarm form abilities. I have yet to see Batman Begins - when you hear about folks skipping the cinema to buy DVDs, they're talking about me. I'm sure that there used to be a...

    Brainstorming: The Staff of Ravens

All right, another digression from the task at hand: Raven, Giant Medium Magical Beast Hit Dice: 3d10+2 (17 hp) Initiative: +1 Speed: 20 ft. (2 squares), Fly 50 ft. (average) Armor Class: 13 (+1 Dex, +2 natural), touch 11, flat-footed 12 Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+2 Attack: Claws +5 melee...

    Help, my players are scared!

Martyrdom These PCs need a cause worth dying for. They need to die. The players should hear (in the next campaign, with new PC) about the heroic self-sacrifice of the folks who gave their lives to keep the village/kingdom/world safe.

From good to bad in less than 6 hours

Thunderstorms are more common in some places than in others. Here in Northern California, we get, maybe one t-storm a year average, and by "thunderstorm," I mean "Somebody told one of my wife's coworkers that they saw a flash of light in the sky the other night." My only flight ever into...

The final "How old are you?" thread

A "week" or a "tenday?" And does forgotten realms time map to real world time? If I was born Feb 26, 1974, then when, by dales reckoning, was I born?

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

That's normally pronounced "linguist," but I think of myself as a descriptivist, rather than a proscriptivist, so I don't meant to correct you, but only to point out that you have employed an interesting innovation here. :D

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Yeah, exactly right: "bow," like the front of a ship. It would be silly to say it some other way. :p

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

A double initial voiceless stop! Really?! So the classical pronunciation of Ptolemy includes an initial cluster? Or is there some ph-like blend that I'm unaware of?

    Most mispronounced monster names

And I don't know about that - one way or the other - I'm just ignorant about any shared etymology. I do know that my mother calls the little clay garden gnomes Kobolds, and I know that if I visit the translator at http://dictionary.reference.com/translate/text.html and pull down "English to...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

AH! I get it! Yeah, I guess I just assumed that it was TOELus - looks Greek/Latin, sounds Greeks/Latin. I treat the initial P as a diacritic, indicating that the following t is an ejective, but I really don't have any support for this, just personal preference. EDIT: "Eberron status?"

    Build me a mulcher/tank

Intriguing, but I haven't picked up RoS yet. I do want to get it, and from what I have seen, goliath looks much better than, say, raptorians. Perhaps I'll have to look at moving this book up a bit on the priority list.

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Me too. The site is prettier than it used to be, but I never went there for the flash, but always for the content. I still go there at least once a week, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if the site went back to the way it was. Oh well. I least I got Dragon 334 and, now, Ptolus to (impatiently)...

I was right there with you, but had been able to hold the impulse in check. ;)

Wow! 10 votes each. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this.
