Well, I disagree with the former. However, I will bow to your superior knowledge of 5e for the latter. I find it bizarre that the fighter is the worst at fighting, but you've played more of 5e than I have.

I mean that monster hit points are elevated to the point where that effect happens rarely. Someone mentioned before that ogres have 50 some odd hit points. I would expect that a 12th level fighter would make short work of a squad of 6. Apparently, this is not the case.

Oh, well, I weep for those whom wizardry is beyond their reach. But I think that each class has their own fun thing, and fighters are predominately about combat.

Well, they're not fighters, are they? Combat prowess isn't their schtick. Rangers, paladins, clavigers, they're all martial types so they have access to that level of combat capability but it takes a feat or two. Fighters start with it, the others start with those things implied by their class...

Fine for you, but not to my palate. Then again, I think "skill monkey" is a rule mechanic and not an archetype.

IMO, they're as normal as spider-goats. Created in a lab, not evolved, but now part of the general ecosystem. (Although spider-goats aren't part of our ecosystem, they could be.)

If a fighter's minimum damage is equal to or great than the target's hit points, it is a mook by approximation. In my game, 1 HD creatures are mooks when fighters are 4th level.
