How do I know if I'm reading a good/up to date history book?

Way back in the day, I had a professor explain to be how, through the analysis of the glue in a bookbinding and the pollen in the glue, he could tell me that a book was made somewhere between 1530 - 1550, and it was definitely August of that year. All because of when the pollen of that plant...

you have 60 seconds to grab whatever you can around you before you are instantly teleported back in time 1,000 years, what would you grab?

Backpack, artist's pad, journal, pencils, pharmacognosy handbook, an honest-to-G-d Copper Age hand axe I made, run past the fridge to grab some meat, the sack of potatoes in the pantry, and hope I make it to the front door for hat and coat. Hopefully I can make myself useful to the locals in the...

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

I guess you don't hear "you might be right" that often?

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

Well, I disagree with the former. However, I will bow to your superior knowledge of 5e for the latter. I find it bizarre that the fighter is the worst at fighting, but you've played more of 5e than I have.

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

I mean that monster hit points are elevated to the point where that effect happens rarely. Someone mentioned before that ogres have 50 some odd hit points. I would expect that a 12th level fighter would make short work of a squad of 6. Apparently, this is not the case.

Oh, well, I weep for those whom wizardry is beyond their reach. But I think that each class has their own fun thing, and fighters are predominately about combat.

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

I talked about the rules I used in one of these interminable threads stating that at in my game 4th level the fighter's minimum damage was 6 pts. The usual hp of a 1HD monster was 6. This allowed a fourth level fighter to routinely take out 2-5 targets a round depending on how hot their dice...

And? What fighter abilities are save for half? I hope you don't mean fireball or something similar. If the fighter can handle the situation, the fighter handles the situation. The wizard is there for when they can't.

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

Well, they're not fighters, are they? Combat prowess isn't their schtick. Rangers, paladins, clavigers, they're all martial types so they have access to that level of combat capability but it takes a feat or two. Fighters start with it, the others start with those things implied by their class...

I am certain they have more than 1 hp.

If the fighter's minimum damage is equal to the monster's average hit points, they are effectively minions without minion rules.

I don't believe I have seen that in all of these turgid threads. Disagreements, certainly, even vociferously, but I haven't read anyone telling you that. But, perhaps I missed that.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

I am not altogether on anybody’s side, because nobody is altogether on my side, if you understand me: nobody cares for the rogues as I care for them, not even authors nowadays. :D For me, a class implies an expertise. If you want to fight better, you can spend feats to improve your skill with a...

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

Fine for you, but not to my palate. Then again, I think "skill monkey" is a rule mechanic and not an archetype.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

IMO, they're as normal as spider-goats. Created in a lab, not evolved, but now part of the general ecosystem. (Although spider-goats aren't part of our ecosystem, they could be.)

D&D General What does the mundane high level fighter look like? [+]

If a fighter's minimum damage is equal to or great than the target's hit points, it is a mook by approximation. In my game, 1 HD creatures are mooks when fighters are 4th level.

D&D 5E (2014) If WotC Did A New Setting Search

That's what I remember too. People were able to assemble a list of 7 of 11 of the finalist entries. WotC didn't disclose what the settings were, and not every author disclosed their submission.
